Suppressors QD suppressor brake vs flash hider effectiveness question

Maybe my googlefu sucks, but someone who has real world experience please answer this. Is there any difference between a flash hider or brake of said manufacturer as far as decibel level reduction on a QD suppressor? I understand the benefits of a brake, I want to know about decibel reduction. Any difference? Anyone taken the same suppressor and used two different QD mounts and metered them?

I would doubt if there were any differences between Brake vs Flash Hider QD mount when mounted to a suppressor; otherwise, the ATF would be involved because one of those devices would reduce the sound signature.

I've used all 3 51T mounts with my M4-2000. I prefer the brake, followed by the Brakeout comp, and FH last. The FH caused a weird 'ting' sound which went away when using the other two mounts. I can only assume it was caused by the prongs on the FH. Other than that sound going away I didn't notice any significant difference in DB reduction. Hope that helps...

The only sound difference in my opinion is the ping that was already suggested (AAC's are infamous for this... And rather annoying IMHO).

I personally run brakes on all my hosts (unless it will rarely see a can), I do this for the perceived sacrificial blast blast baffle argument.

Brake or flash hider the peak pressure and blast is the same but redirected with the brake Vs the flash hider.
Brakes are great if you want recoil reduction ( no can attached) or to save erosion of your main blast baffle especially if you are running a short barrel in a rifle caliber with can attached.
I never hear a ping with my Blackout mount with the can attached, without it does make a noticeable ping.


I doubt the chambers on a brake cool or slows the gas down enough for any meaningful sound reduction with or without a can, if it did it would be a suppressor itself.
