Qualified Immunity Could Be Abolished In Ohio In The Next Election

Yet politicians will still have "infinite immunity".....

I don't think qualified immunity is understood and it's worst abuses should be considered crimes already on the books....corruption and failure of accountability.

Qualified immunity was not intended to be what it has become.....sounds like a broken record for anything in the govt these days.

A better target would be politicians - promote something knowingly unconstitutional in the hopes you win through lawfare and deep tax payer pockets....you are liable personally, not the tax payer.

Like the government coercing private companies to violate civil rights or using foreign governments to spy on American citizens. A very big one is the secret fisa court. How about alphabet agencies making regulations that are enforced as laws not passed by Congress.

That would be a great step.
Hopefully we can get Qualified Immunity wiped out state by state and then eventually country wide.

Pipe dreams about politicians aside.

Making the Uniform Hangers actually personal liable and responsible for the evil, brutality and harm and death and destruction they cause would go a LONG way towards fixing government.

No uniform hangers willing to do the evil deeds = politicians unable to do evil.

Sometimes you have to deal with the pawns even if you know they are being sent by the king.

It would also cause a lot of wannabees to seek employment elsewhere. If they know that they can't get away with being a bully by wearing a badge, they will go somewhere else.

If governement was run efficiently and politicians were held accountable no one would run for office. Power would be with the people and politicians wouldn’t become millionaires. Ain’t going to happen. It is its own industry/cash cow.

correct. himmler didn't shoot 10,000 jews in minsk in1941. his minions willingly did so.

Well 4 states have already pulled qualified immunity- some by legislation and one by ballot initiative. Ohio would be a big one - hopefully we can make it happen in MI .
MI is working g on a law to keep problem / Brady lost officers from working anywhere in the state instead of just going down the road and Gerri g hired again . A step in the right direction.

And actually since there is no law or legislation on the national level - QI was totally made up whole cloth by the SCOTUS as another tool in the war on drugs - it should be doable to pass legislation to completely do away with it .

I read an article today about a woman that was framed by two cops for murder. She spent 16 years in prison before the case was overturned. The taxpayers are on the hook for 30 million and the two cops are liable for 10K each. Too bad that they didn't get 16 years for fucking up her life. That would almost be justice.

The fact that they framed her should be a criminal offense.

Well, they did have to suffer for 16 years that they sent an innocent person to a living hell. Can you imagine their mental anguish? It must have been terrible for them. But hey, they cleared a case from their docket so they could spend some time with their families.

She has $30mil?

She could have them both killed in horrible painful ways, and still have $29.5mil pretty easily.

If they slept good the last 16 years, they may not be now..

I’ve posted about the MI case here before- it’s the case that we got the famous MI Supreme Court ruling-“ being innocent isn’t sufficient reason to overturn a guilty plea.”
Several bodies were found in an abandoned house- young 15-16 year old kid with severe mental problems was seen several times in the area- he fucking lived in the neighborhood. Anyhow he gets arrested and held for like 40 hours with no phone call or parental notification. Hard ball interrogation and he confessed to the 4-5 murders.
Few years later a MI mob hit man gets popped for murder- and fesses up to several- including the one the kid is serving life for- why he killed them how why he put them in that house laid out in that fashion- how much money they had on them ect.
Kid gets a retrial- and goes to states high court and we get that wonderful ruling and the kid is still in prison.

The weather is good also.
I'd rather have Montana weather. Different strokes and all. If I was in charge of the weather, it would be fall 8 months out of the year, highs about 50, nights in the 20's. You'd get summer for one 30 day period right in the middle of fall, but the heat would never get above 90°. The other 3 months you ask? Winter, 10-25° temps and a constant revolving 18" of snow with an occasional 2-3', usually on weekends. It would be hunting season 11 months of the year. Basically, northern Alaska and Canada.

That's the kind of ruling where Judges need to find out what street justice means.
Along with the Uniform hangers responsible.

Don't complain when no one gets arrested for crimes committed.
Officers are sued every day for legal arrests for crimes with overwhelming evidence.

Does qualified immunity get abused? Yes.
I believe we have generally turned the corner on that, though it still happens.
