"Recovered" has a definition, and it =/= "confirmed but not dead." To be recovered, the afflicted must have previously tested positive, but currently exhibiting no symptoms, and test negative (I think twice). So, the delta between "dead" and "recovered" is the "still experiencing symptoms and/or testing positive" category.

Lol, we're in a flu pandemic every year. Hell, there are multiple pandemics every year.
This virus is basically a SARS type virus. We get a type of it in the US every year just like the flu, and many of the COVID cases annually are mistakenly diagnosed as the flu since not everyone is tested but diagnosed based on the symptoms. Speaking of which, it is fairly common to become infected with COVID 19 and show no worse an infection than the common cold.
While influenza and SARS-CoV-2 are not the same they do cause similar symptoms though COVID is worse to acquire. Most people even on this board are not disputing there are differences between the two or downplaying that its a bad infection to have. Most however are just not buying the doomsday hype that millions upon millions in the US will die. There's always a chance that those scenarios could happen but I, like most here, have our doubts. You seem to believe it and that's fine. To each their own. However since our elected officials have a less than stellar track record proving that they are working for the betterment of the average Joe on the street I'll remain skeptical.

If any somewhat closely related member of your extended family went on one of those "Ancestry" or "Medical" DNA testing covert operations then you are on the national DNA database.
And it's not just conspiracy either, there are a bunch of documented cases of that information being used to track down closely related 3rd parties.
Check out cases like the “grim sleeper.” He was caught because of “familial DNA.”
A relative was in prison and thusly had their dna taken. When using dna from crime scenes there was a partial match. So they looked into his family members that could be linked to those crimes.

The biggest screw up was in a lack of testing, not because we could quarantine people (but it's always a good idea to stay home when your sick with something contagious) but because it would have instantly squashed the fear/panic. I'd be willing to bet millions have had this, recovered from it just fine over the last 2 months.
However, because there's no mass testing, people can assume the worst case that the media loves to breed and freak out. Trump is going to get destroyed over this by the media and the longer there isn't widespread testing to show people that millions of people have had this and got better, panic will not subside. It will subside in a couple months as this works its way through the population and people are not falling over dead everywhere. It also artificially increases the mortality rate when you have no idea how many people have had it but recovered because you never tested them. PA has 13 million people, and we've tested less than 35,000 and over 4000 were positive. That's basically the same # of positive cases when NY had done the same number of tests, except they've now tested over 200,000 people.
I live out in PA, my GF (she has a compromised immune system) had to be admitted to the ER before they'd test her when her breathing got so bad she could not finish a sentence with her doctor on the phone, after having increasing symptoms for 9 days they could not explain or treat and she didn't respond to antibiotics. A common story here is people are told they've randomly got pneumonia and Rx antibiotic and a breathing steroid. We're still waiting to hear back on her test after 5 days but she's much better now, even the ER doctor was like "you know you have this right?". I'm pretty sure I've had it looking back at her symptom progression, but I had only the mildest symptoms. If I'd have had this without knowing she was very sick, and being told to quarantine. I'd have never even thought twice about going to work, etc. Seasonal allergies are 10x worse than what I had. There are people at her work following in her symptom progression but milder that can't get tested either.
My view, yes it seems to attack some even young healthy people very badly, but for most, it's just another flu/cold. If you are old, or have a compromised immune system, it's dangerous, but so is the flu.
Funny part is, when we took her to the ER it was basically empty. Turns out when people are too scared to go to the ER with BS stuff, there's not that many people there. It probably also helps most of the idiot PA drivers are off the roads.
