It is right and appropriate that Old Glory be flown at half mast in honor of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, ruler of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and our greatest ally and friend.

We should never do it to show obedience or fealty to a foreign potentate.
But we can show our strength and independence with a recognition that a great world leader has passed with our greatest show of respect.

Not being a natural born kiwi I can't tell you i think a lot of it is just who shouts the loudest gets heard i know a lot of people that are sad about liz so its not all hate. NZ is a funny place we used chuck out more than our fair share of legends and awesome innovators John britten, Edmund Hillary, Charles upham and Peter Blake are some I can think of without trying.
