Question about Vitavouri powders

My local shop seems to have a decent and consistent supply of Vitavouri powders available, so I’m thinking about grabbing a few pounds.

My question is whether or not there’s a somewhat “universal“ powder of theirs that I can use across my calibers (.223, .308, 6.5 Creedmoor) or if there’s a combo of 1 or 2 types that will cover my needs.

I’m not looking for crazy muzzle velocity speeds since my range maxes out at 300 yards - just a powder that’ll get me some reasonable results

In terms of the components that I normally use:
  • 223 (77gr SMK, Lapua brass, CCI primers)
  • 308 (168 and 175 SMK, Lapua brass, Federal primers)
  • 6.5 Creedmoor (140 ELDM, Hornady brass, Federal primers. I also use the same combo with 120 g
Any advice is appreciated.

So, I don’t see any loads listed specifically for the 140 ELDM in the 6.5 Creed tables (I do see some powders that my shop has in stock that will work for .223 and .308).

Is there a safe way to pick a staring point using the data that they list for a different bullet of the same weight (e.g., N150 and a 140 gr Nosler Accubond)?

Would it be okay to take that max load weight and drop it 10% as a starting point and work up (I’m using a Hornady case vs Lapua in this instance)?

Any advice that can help keep me from blowing my face off is appreciated

Ok, I looked at their data for 6.5 creed, use 139gr scenar as your guideline. Both bullets have a fair amount of bearing surface, work up accordingly.

Thanks for the advice - I'll give that a try (I'm going to get a pound of the N540 for the .223/.308 and a pound of the N150 for the 6.5)

N140 is maybe a touch faster than Varget - maybe closer to H4895? N150 is just a skosh slower, probably more like Varget / RE-15 range. N160 should be a good analog for H4350.

Used to play with the 5 series years ago in AR Service Rifle... N540/N550 would shoot kinda 'meh' until you hotrodded the crap out of it, where it'd shoot *awesome*. Problem was, there was a very fine line between 'awesome' and 'wrecked brass due to temperature sensitivity'. That was 10+ years ago, so maybe the newer blends are a little less finicky.
