Questioning the quality of the Ckye-Pod- UPDATE - New one received !!

Well, I went and did it. I ordered the Ckye Pod and finally got it in today. I got the PRS Short version with Arca. I was surprised and a little let down when I got it out of the packaging and started to play with it. I was expecting, maybe higher quality or tighter tolerances. I was really shocked at how wobbly and lose the legs were. Specifically where they attach and rotate for the splay-out. The pivot for the legs to sweep (deploy) are lose too but not AS bad.

Maybe I was expecting too much for a bipod thats $550? I mean that is a lot of cabbage for something to be simply imperfect.

Anyone else have a similar experience or reaction when they got theirs?

UPDATE. I got the new ckye pod in today. HUGE difference in quality. the new one is what I expected the original one to feel like. The all joints operate flawlessly and lock up perfectly with an acceptable amount of clearance for proper operation. I would suggest, without measuring, its at least 50% tighter than my original.

Big thanks to @MDT_Josh and @MDT_OFFICIAL for the help. They came through huge and just sent me a new pod on good faith. Ill be sending my original one back.

Get behind it and preload almost all the wiggle in it goes away, but that got me as well when I first got mine took me a little while to get more used to it , it's functions like the extra spreading legs totally made up for me at least , the inability to tighten its wiggle out . Now if they lowered the price a hundred I would absolutely get another hint hint . I am really hoping to be trying a 5h soon I like the atlas's bi pods but learned to love my ckye pod just as much .

I mentioned in another thread that the Ckye Pod did not look nearly as stout as an Atlas. Admittedly I've never handled one, but the design doesn't appear to lend itself to being very rigid. I'd certainly be disappointed for $550.

I used the atlas PSR for years until the ckyepod came out. I’ve got a 1st gen ckyepod and I’ve used it all over the country in some super shitty conditions. I’ve still got the atlas but it hangs out on the vudoo for shooting squirrels

The ckyepod is the first bipod I grab and in my opinion is more useful in every way than the atlas. That “slop” you see isn’t an issue at all. Once the weight of the rifle is on it, it’s rock solid.

snow/ice montana, dusty Arizona, thick clay/mud in Wyoming, 72* San Diego just to name a few. Never had a problem.

In 9 years on the Hide I've commented in exactly TWO Ckye Pod threads, including this one. I just found it interesting that someone who has bought one, is complaining about the very thing that I imagined I would. Lack of rigidity.

Not saying it's a POS, clearly it's not. Maybe I'll try one someday, but the SCAL and PSR do everything I need in a bipod.

The slop is there to allow it to function. If things are too tight a little dirt will stop it up in a hurry. It's perfectly stable once you get on it.

So you think they couldn't have made a 550 dollar bipod with way tighter tollerances and way less usability in prs if they wanted to. Kind of like every other bipod that hasn't taken the sport by storm

I wouldn't argue it isn't rigid. I loaded it and it feels solid. its the in between that surprised me. I figured at the price point, it would feel like its been Wire-EDM'd ... instead of Dremel'd after a rack of Natty-Daddy's

I had one for a while, sold it and moved back to Atlas. I liked it and thought it was "neat" but I never really utilized it in any way that a CAL wouldn't do. There were a couple of stages where we shot across a tractor tire and another with a pile of rocks where its cant and ability to spread way out was very useful but those were few and far between for me. I personally didn't have an issue with quality or slop, just sold it and bought 2 CALs with the money.

No, but it's by far the easiest and most reliable.

I remember the old thumb screw Harris adjusters, that you had to use a bunch because they didn't have any swivel adjustment. I avoided all mud because the legs would jam up and I'd have to dunk it and work all the dirt back out.


For the games we play, the ability to flip the legs front or back, side to side, and get steady and level on the oddest obstacles it wins.

For practical field use where you'd just move a few feet to a better position.... Atlas or Harris still works great.

I have been looking between the ckye and an atlas. For the guys who have shot on both what type of terrain are you shooting on most of the time? I'm in the midwest so it's pretty flat. But I like to shoot off of stupid things to see if I can make the shot. So for the guys that have used both which do you suggest?

I don't disagree, the slop and wobbliness does kinda annoy me.

However everytime I use it, in any of the positions, all the way wide to full extended I have never had a problem with it. Go run it and see how it does for you.

I had an atlas CAL until arca mounts came to the game and made them obsolete (I only used the Atlas over the Harris because I could deploy my legs backwards to make my footprint small enough to fit on something like the top of a 55gal drum. The arca means I don't need to deploy backwards and can do the same now with my Harris).

The Ckyepod is my alternate to the Harris for weird shit, times when I need to get high, and rooftops sideways rooftops, etc.

I had handled the Ckyepod many times before I ordered it and won't say I wasn't disappointed with the slop, but they don't fall apart and they are super solid when loaded.

Atlas PSR and my shooting partner has the Cal Gen2
Ckye Pod with PRS Short Legs.

Running them all in matches and drills the only complaint I have with the Ckye Pod is that the legs come out so easily and with the grip tape that sometimes moving between positions, it's very easy for the leg to get caught or rub on something and get extended. Costs me a little time to get it back to the position I want.

Well I'm not going to read all the shit throwing and dick measuring above, but to the OP: you are not alone. I purchased the gen 1 Ckyepod a few years back. I quickly became disappointed in how the pan and cant features would never retain their settings, it would constantly come loose. I even tried various grease and threadlock which only helped slightly. I hated the feet and immediately switched them to Atlas feet. The legs won't retract consistently if theres even slight lateral pressure. I still carry the Ckye in my pack at matches because it does have some unique utility that comes in handy once in a while. I also own Harris, Atlas PSR, and Warne Skyline. I almost hate to shed light on my secret, but my two match rifles wear Warne bipods...

ETA: My brother bought the gen 2 Ckyepod and has experienced the exact same issues.

I shot the gen1 and though all neat stuff it could do was cool..Only thing u really didn’t like was the coating/finish...it was rough and the legs didnt adjust smooth at all and hung up on me under the clock when I needed it to be smooth and fast.

When I first had an arca attached to my Manners, I had an Evolution bipod and an Atlas CAL. I soon decided that with the ability to move a Harris in towards the mag well, I have no reason to keep these two expensive bipods. I sold both and went back to a Harris.

And folks, about the Cyke bipod, I've never held one, never shot one, it was honestly refreshing to see a new bipod that was novel, not infringing on our patents. My hat is off to them (him) for that. The first Atlas bipods were "loose" and oh how those "experts" that never shot off one would howl! Even now, we'll get a call from a consumer asking about tolerance (loose/play) when the legs are extended..... It's the secret sauce, when the bipod is attached to a rifle, the legs are deployed and extended, then the rig is set on the ground, table or any supporting surface, the secret sauce, called "gravity", takes the play away! add just a touch of pressure, some call "load" and your golden.... well, at least that's my experience.

Bipods are not narcotics, it's really ok to try them before forming an opinion.
