Hey fellas.

This probably belongs in the "stupid questions" section, but I noticed this a while ago and wanted to post this quick question while I'm getting ready for a range trip:

On a couple of my bolts, there is some metal being sheared away from two corners on the back of the lugs (boltface facing downrange, it's sheared a bit on the top/back corner of the left lug, and bottom/back corner of the right lug). I see it on most bolts so I assume it's pretty normal? But is there a point at which it becomes a problem? I try to keep grease behind my lugs, am I not using enough?

Thanks!

Pics would be nice.

Ask and you shall receive! Pics uploaded. Note the wear on the back corner of the lug. That's what I'm referring to. The pics don't show it too well, but the corner is slowly being rounded off by wear. It is on the top of the left lug, bottom of the right lug. I've seen it on several bolts, just wondering if it affects the gun in any negative way, and if so, is there a way to stop it from happening/getting worse? I only ask because this specific bolt has seen less than 200 rounds. If I want to shoot thousands of rounds through it, I'm hoping the wear stops here lol.

Those cuts are there from the factory. They match angled cuts in the receiver to help close the bolt under the tension of the firing pin spring.

It becomes a problem if they start galling for some reason and you get noticeably heavier bolt throw. Those wear marks will never be a safety concern unless something really wrong happens like cracks in the lugs or chipped away material etc... (for instance... never seen it happen personally)

Keep shooting.
