I was just wondering if anyone could make a suggestion for a good scope that has the quick ranging ability. I'm thinking like the dragunov style reticle, or the nightforce np-1rr, or a new one i tried by GRSC (M4-62 reticle). While i think, traditionally people use mildot's or other reticles that require some math calcs (i have a horus and i think that's still alot of calculating) - i was thinking more of quick ranging system where it's not complicated to figure range, or one where i don't need a calculator.

Any suggestions on scopes and/or reticle?

Re: Quick range finding reticled scopes?

cyrekzz,

Figuring out range is not complicated, fire your LRF at a target, presto you got range....

However, figuring out how to hit that target, at that range, requires some magic. For that you need your range dope, for your load, in that rifle. A magic reticle has not been invented yet, that let's you hit that target without some work on your part.

Lacking an LRF, then you have to use your reticle to range. But you don't need a calculator, a Mildot master will do the math for you, no batteries required. Still need your range dope though. It's those pesky details that always bite you in the butt.

Of course, you really don't need to know the range to your target. You could of course spray and pray. But plan on missing allot......

Yeah - i guess it was kind of a dream on my part, but i can't deny that they are making an attempt to simplify things a bit. Otherwise, I wonder why they would have those reticles?

I guess i was just looking for other reticles i may have not seen or heard of that other people know about other than mildot and stuff like that.

yeah - i hear ya... i mean i understand how to range otherwise, i was just kinda wondering if they had come up with any newer,no brainer, types of reticles... that's all.

I've got bullet flight so ranging is easy there too... but I didn't want to have to carry an extra piece of anything to range if i could help it.

hahaha! I know it sounds like i'm being lazy - i was just trying to be more practical about it i guess. The m4-62 reticle was nice for quick range estimation and shooting which i used a little this last weekend.
