R-15 VTR in 30 Remington AR

[Bullet Molester]

I picked up an R-15 in 30 Remington AR caliber (aka 30 RAR). Does anyone know much about where to get ammo for this caliber? Also know any fairly simple options to re-barrel or swap uppers to a different caliber? Just curious what kind of project I could make this thing?

No idea where to find ammo, but congrats on finding that gun. Pretty rare at this point.

I think you should be able to change out any upper you want, just need a different mag. 204, 5.56, 6.5 6.8, 458, 450, 50. Or just change your barrel, bolt and mag. And use that upper with any of them.

That's pretty much what I thought, but I'm not familiar with remmy's AR. I have no reason to suspect it wouldn't be mil-spec and swap out with other uppers/mags in 223 platforms from what little I have read. Just want to offer the thought to the gurus of the forum.

You can swap uppers but it looks like the 30 RAR upper is not standard (nor is the BCG) so it's not just a simple bolt-barrel assembly swap.

Roll your own.. 125gr Nosler BT's and IMR 8208 XBR are a winning combo in this cartridge out to 300 yards. I had one of these rifles in the past but sold it to fund other projects. I think I still have a shit load of brass and 125 gr .30 cal projectiles around here somewhere.

Just checked my data and 36gr. of XBR 8208 (2477 fps.) / Fed 205M / 125 Nosler BT's seated to mag length / gave me 4 shots in just under 1/2" at 100 yards and 4 shots in 1.5" at 300 yards.

Remington owns DPMS, so it's basically a DPMS or Bushmaster AR, should be the same as any other, other than the 30RAR parts. I think...
