I have an R700 LA that I am using to build a 300 WM. Unfortunately, it started life as a 30-06, so I need a bolt. If I order a two-piece PTG bolt, will the factory bolt shroud and firing pin assembly transfer over? I'm assuming they are the same, regardless of bolt face diameter.

I would just get a different action, but this particular action was left to me from my late father and has sentimental value. Thanks for the help.

Thanks gents, I was under the impression that I had to get a different bolt. I'll have to ask Chad if he'll do that under the R700 Group buy. The rifle will be mag-fed out of an AI AX chassis.

The receiver is a B prefix, which puts it in the late 70's. Is anyone aware of quality control issues from these older actions that would prevent it from being true-able?

You will need to open up the rear of the ejection port as well to get it to eject right, it will bounce back on the thicker wall at the upper right of the rear of the port. It is easy enough to do, even with a dremel, just find someone with a mag action you can look at and look from the front of the action at the back side of the port to get an idea on how much to take off. It doesn't have to be exact, just clear it little by little until it ejects cleanly if you have never done it before.

Just send it in. We can bush the face and install a different extractor. It'll work better than the junk riveted OEM type anyway.

As for feeding/ejection. Only time we see an issue is when big turrets are used on the scope. The case can bounce off the knob and back flip back into the port. One way to solve this is just adding dual ejectors to the bolt. Trim a couple coils off the springs so that closing isn't so "clunky" and they run well. Really well in fact. The idea is to alter the ejection angle from the port. It avoids the case being "punted" and makes it more horizontal.

Dremels: Leave them in the box. . .they rarely deliver the desired result.

I would agree 99% of the time. But a sanding drum on one can do the operation I mentioned if he was looking to do it himself. Assuming he has a mill though would be a whole different animal and of course that would be the preferred route.

As far as never having a problem with bounce back in a standard action modified for a mag, is that due to your adjustment on the ejector or even without it? It seems to be a pretty common issue on both WSM's and LA mag in my experience. If not related only after the modification, any ideas on what you are doing right so it isn't an issue? Always looking to learn anything I can. It doesn't seem to come up as much in the LA in actual use (firing so ejecting spent cases), but live round extraction I have noticed it a decent bit.
