Rifle Scopes Ran out of windage zeroing my 22

Finally switched out the shitty factory scope on my Savage for a Nikon. Got it to the range to zero and ran out of windage at 100 yards. I've never been good at troubleshooting this kinda stuff so where should I start? Scope was 100% functional when I mounted it.

What are you using for rings and base? Could you get it on paper at closer distance? How far off are you at 100?

Take the rings off and put them back on the opposite way. IE: If the head used to tighten them to the rail was on the right side move them to be on the left side.

Does it have a grooved reciever?

Nikon Monarch. 4-16 with the BDC. The rings and bases are factory so probably cheap but the rifle always shot well and always held zero.

I was only 3 or 4" from having a perfect (100 yard) zero before I ran out of adjustment.

I'm not sure. FWIW it's a 93 series.

i've dealt with some Marlin actions that weren't drilled true for the bases. either that or throw the rings off a bridge. hope you find the problem. post it when you do.

I had a Marlin that was just not lined up properly, more than lilely the case if you gun was as cheap as my old 22.

But how does that explain the rifle shooting straight with the factory scope? Did they manufacture a crooked scope to match?

fyi- receivers can be drilled off true. some scopes will mechanically make up the difference at short ranges. other scopes may not.

*easiest way in the world to check scope failure is with a scope-tracking sheet. google it and print one out. guaranteed result.

No, I suppose my point was that the Nikon scope I had on it did not have enough windage to compensate for whatever caused it not to be "lined up". Which is a similar incident to what I understood from the original post. Did I say it the wrong way?

I had a 22 that did the same thing. I just put a shim under the scope and called it good. For a 22 it worked great until I got a new scope with more elevation adjustment.
