Rear Bag for bench shooting

I am looking for a rear bag for bench shooting. Can I use something like this:

Or will I need a higher mount since I will be primarily bench shooting. Both of them talk about for prone shooting. As such, I am not certain if I need a higher or different type of rear bag. Thanks.

It depends on how much accuracy you're looking for. Either of those will work. And will be better than just using your other hand.

Something like these would probably be better for shooting off a bench, at a stationary target, at a known distance.

pmy is right, get one of the Protektor rear bags as they have a seperate fill point for the ears and the base so that the sand stays in the ears. Then you can pinch the ears with your off hand on the stock to frame your sight picture while you press the trigger. Regards

Which Protektor model would you recommend. They look really nice. I will be using for an Ar10 and Ar15 primarily.

I just finished making and experimenting with a lot of different shapes, sizes and density of bags. I settled on a design that got me started on this journey after seeing one my friend was using. It's oval shaped about 2 1/2" x 5 1/2" x 5/1/2 wide. It's made from a set of old leather welding chaps. I put the rougher side out and it's been working extremely well. Has just enough tacky feel to hold the gun in place, you can rotate it for more elevation and it'll stay in place so you don't have to be constantly squeezing it. If you need more height you rotate the bag slightly. I filled it with small plastic pellets till it was very firm. Been working so well my son wanted one for his rifle. Lots of choices and lots of ideas on what works best, if you see someone using one you've never seen before ask if you can try it.

Topstrap...I think you get an "A" for enthusiasm! I never thought there were so many shapes, or that it would make a difference. I'm glad to see that picture, though. It will make me re-evaluate mine.

Are plastic beads preferred over sand, or is it just a preference issue?
