Title says it all, got a B14 HMR with a TT drop-in that needs some attention. Bonus points for a smith that will discuss my gripes and suggest potential fixes, cause I’m not 100% sure it’s timing vs. something else.

Bonus points for telling us your gripes
Sure. The bolt close feel is too stiff, and the cocking action is way worse. It really only got bad when I switched to the Premier bolt. Not sure if the spring is overweight, but it seems unlikely because there are vids out there of folks running a Premier bolt smoothly and easily. That leads me to suspect trigger timing, but I honestly don’t know enough to rule out some other issue, so I’d like to discuss it with someone who can actually hold it in their hands. And I don’t just want someone who will say “Ok, I’ll time it and take your money,” I’m looking for someone trustworthy who I can rely on to actually diagnose the true issue.

You can do a couple things to try and isolate the issue.
Removing the firing pin group will let you cycle the bolt with no spring tension, you can tell that way if it’s the surfaces riding over one another or if it’s caused by the bits you removed.
Then I would put the firing pin stuff back in the bolt and remove the trigger and see if that’s where your dissatisfaction comes from.

Asking questions on here and figuring it out yourself is going to result in a better and cheaper fix compared to almost any gunsmith. Most “smiths” these days have no business being near a gun.
I lived up there for a while and I dont know of a good one in the whole area.

I appreciate the ideas, and I’ll play around with them, but this is a case where at least some of the issues are outside my expertise, so I want to consult a solid professional if I can find one. I’m more willing to tinker than most, but only when I can visualize the issue; if metalwork needs to be done, I’m not gonna do it, Dremeling a bolt or action is a step too far for me.

Just looking for a smith recommendation, and feel free to chime in with ones I’d have to mail to, I guess, just means we can’t be in the same room as the gun at the same time, which is a big part of what I’m after here.

    Thanks.
