Red Dot on CCW Pistol. Do you guys use them?

That's your fault for carrying a pistol of dub par capability.
But maybe you're not capable of more so that's OK.

Have you ever used a larger one? I have gone down as small as 2 moa and that's how I know what I know.
As a company I don’t trust their production quality or customer service.
If the RMR HD came with a 6-7 MOA dot I’d buy that. Large dot helps with astigmatism.
I haven’t, really due to never having felt the need to do anything different than 3 moa for a pistol.
Not saying I wouldn’t try it if someone around me had one.
I also have many thousands of rounds with using 1 and 2 moa red dots on rifles, having never wanted any bigger for that application, so 3 to me is actually plenty large enuff. I’ve always taken red dots to much farther distances and to much smaller targets than most people will ever try, including with pistols. I’ve always preferred a very fine and crisp aiming point, which must be why I like my P5FL reticle in my S&B 6-36 so well.
I do however think the 1 MOA version RMR would indeed be too small of a dot for me on a fighting pistol.
Interesting that for you the large dot helps with astigmatism.
I have a 6 MOA dot as a secondary system on my rifle and with my glasses off it is friggin’ yuge.
For a pistol, if my scenario involved me possibly not having my glasses, I was thinking of a smaller dot that my astigmatism would bloom to a better size.

Smaller dots always look more crisp to me. Larger dots def have more bloom, for my eyes.
Larger dot tricks your eye and doesn’t smear like a smaller one.
I sure do. I'm an experienced pistol shooter/instructor now on the bad side of 50. i've used trijicons, dpps on a variety of pistols.
My oldest trijicon RMR now rides my carry gun after a second DPP ssoft failed. my rmr is the 3.25 original, most basic, non-adjustable, always-on version. I've had it since midway through gwot, when the cool kids started running them. it has lived on carbines, shotguns and now on my ccw. In ten years i've maybe changed the battery twice. its never died on its own. It looks like a mal's chew toy but is as reliable as a 10lb steel ball... Absolutely trustworthy.
I was slower with it than irons inside of 5 yards when I first learned it, but tbh at those ranges I don't even need to find the dot to get a zone hits at speed. with a few years behind it, just as fast or faster than i was with irons.
When i teach i'll shoot every CCW course of fire my school certifies for and a few of them (somewhat stupidly) go out to 50M. Beyond 10yds it's not just faster but orders of magnitude more precise. I find myself shooting 'possible' scores every time. Once you've tried one, you'll never go back.

Just acquired my first RMRs, one 3.25 and one 6.5 and can see the perceptible difference in lack of movement with the 6.5 dot. I do like the 3.25 for a more defined look, but it’s early.
Finding the dot from a closed eye presentation is getting easier to do and can’t wait to put rounds targets, quickly, to watch the miraculous unfold…. I’m digging the difference!

Small sample size but I am 2 for 2 in the good to go category with Steiner products.
Everyone's vision is different. For me it's the exact opposite.
Rifles are, at worst, 4 moa weapons.
A high end precision pistol will struggle to shoot better than 3 inches at 50 yards (6 moa) and most high end pistols are more like 8 - 10 moa capable. Using a dot that is smaller than the pistol's cone of accuracy is false hope. Statistically there's a really good chance that your shot will end up outside of the dot's diameter if the dot is significantly smaller than the pistol's accuracy. A dot size equal to or slightly larger than the pistol's mechanical accuracy increases the probability that your shots will be inside your call.
This is a 10 moa dot on a USPSA target at 25 yards. It looks larger than it really is due to the need to brighten it more than I would need so that I could take this photo. Dead easy to make head shots at this distance and dead easy to make body shots at twice the distance.

At longer distances, yes and dramatically so. At shorter distances (<10 yds) the speed increase isn't as much but I can shoot much more accurately at that new speed than I could with irons.
One thing that most people don't take advantage of is just how much sooner you can start shooting when transitioning to a new target because there's zero time lost to visual aaccommodation.
this is the most concisely explained argument for the larger dot sizes I have ever seen, and now that I think about it explains my preference for that circle cross reticle on the EPS carry, as it behaves like a larger dot without the astigmatism smear if uncorrected vision, and in the case of corrected vision doesn't cover the target like the larger dots do but the area inside the ring I treat similar to one.

Took my sig 322 with it's green 2 and 32, and my pdp pro SD with its green 6 down to visit family in Houston. Went shooting with my dad. His first time shooting pistols with an rds. He preferred the green 6 especially after I turned off the 32 ring. He is also red green color blind and prefers the green. He wears trifocals. Hasn't gone shooting in a few years because of issues lining up sights. He just ordered a green 6 to put on his new mark 4 tactical. Wants to get his Sti Gp6 (grandpower k100) optics cut now. Contacting somebody that advertises optic cuts on that gun with questions.

LOL. You could literally just replace the word handgun with rifle and this would be the exact same conversation 20 years ago. Now most rifles aren’t even equipped with backup irons. In another decade or hopefully less, neither will handguns.
If you’re not using optics on handguns for any reason not A) not allowed by department/agency or B) you just enjoy shooting irons at range sometimes……you’re just wrong.
Just like rifles, optics are superior to irons in almost every way.
(Also, for anyone who wants to talk about worst case scenario and self defense, if you’re properly trained, you should be able to run a slick slide with no irons or optics and still be combat/self defense effective at anything 10yds or closer. So you wouldn’t really care about those backup irons if you were properly trained)
