A farmer whose land I use seems to have an issue with coyotes getting to his young cattle. I'm not one hundred percent sure which comes first, death or coyote, but the amount of young carcasses seems out of the norm to me.

What is the best way to reduce the population of coyotes via a ballistic nature? I don't have the ability to trap them, so I would like to set them up to catch a 175 smk. Also, I believe it is illegal in MO to use lights/NODs/thermal.

Any good tips for bringing them out under daylight?

Sneak in, setup with a crosswind or wind in your face from where you think they will be. Use an electronic caller like a FoxPro or a handcall, rabbit distress or pup distress.. Call for 10 to 15 minutes. Something should show up within 5 if they're close. Have good visibility for all directions, they will try to circle your downwind to come in. I hunt from a folding chair with a bipod. A tripod will also work. If they're coming in, get on them without too much movement, bark or howl to get them to stop in the open and shoot them a little low behind the front shoulder or the middle of the chest if they're facing you. SMK's while not be the best round but should kill. I wish I lived closer and I'd take you.

Where are you located? I hunt them regularly. PM me and I'll shoot you my number and talk you through it. Hunting yotes is one of those things that is really easy to do, but really HARD to do well!

Well i will just with hold comment on GWs, .gov and the lack of any common sense from any of them

Nightvision.

We have the same 'artificial light' thing in Utah to get rid of spotlighting. They don't even know WTF IR light is, and technically, I'm using a laser motherfucker.

How would they even catch you using it; thats to say you even do - there's ways to use a RDS on your gun with just night vision and no IR laser/light. The PVS14 or ANVIS9 doesn't generate any light.

Plus where's your sense of adventure? A few guys, comms, planned egress and PZ's as your ride out won't be static/parked.

@TheGerman, I like your sense of doing hood rat shit with your hood rat friends... I just don’t have NODs as of now. And I want to keep things on the up and up as I’m on a friends land, and don’t want to cause him issues ;).

@viva la figa, I’m up north of KCMO. Don’t know how smart our dogs are, I’ve had one walk up 10m behind me sitting against a tree, and walk directly under a tree stand during deer season. I wonder if that’s the best time to put a dent in their numbers, maybe less available food?

This little one got separated from the herd. Can’t imagine it died of natural causes, but the coyotes didn’t help.

They fall under "charismatic megafauna" and therefore have all the bleeding heart libs, who love to get recreationally outraged, up in arms crying foul when ever a cute fluffy little critter gets killed. They all think of these predators as just a big version of their cute fluffy lap dog Admiral Osmond Von Doonsbury III....why would anyone want to possibly get rid of them?

The hippy enviro greenies have no idea how the hierarchy of species works. Those yotes will die of starvation, or thirst, or disease, or maimed or injured. Not to mention any of a million other extremely painful ways to die...a bullet to the boiler room and instant lights out is the most humane and least painful way that animal will ever have a chance to die.

I have seen it happen here in the city of LA. They jump up and down to ban hunting of Mountain lions and coyotes and then cant figure out why Mr. Muffins the house cat became a midnight snack.

Hell we have had several mountain lions attack hikers and mt bikers recently.

Here are recent photos of 2 mountain lions in urban areas. One drinking out of a pool in Malibu and the other using the drainage system to cross under the 5 freeway in Los Angeles.

These big cats are no joke!

The really dumb part is that instead of having hunters PAY the state to hunt and control their population the voters of CA decided that the STATE should PAY for professional hunting teams to go out and kill problem animals.

They ain't so cute when you got a chicken coop and one of your primary sources of livelihood are turned into a mass of blood and mangled flesh and feathers every morning.

Several of my friends got farms out in 'yote country and this shit has become a major problem for them. Not just the 'yotes, but bleeding heart latte guzzlers who want to keep folks from hunting them. Neighborhood pets had also periodically gone missing and young kids play outside too. Of course, there are no ordinances against varmint hunting in their parts, so I am always happy when they call me to head on over there and take down the latest chicken killers.

My go to rig for red-misting predators:

Mfg. by Uberti / Beretta. Cartridge conversion enabled in .45 Long Colt. I mounted an old-style 4X fixed power M-16 scope on top. Exceptionally accurate when being fired from a fork rest. When hunting in percussion mode, ideal load is 220 grain Lee conical over 35 grains of Hodgdon Triple Se7en and set off with a RWS No. 10 cap. Most of the 'yotes I shot with this setup were in the 70-110 yard range. Would be more than adequate for big mountain lions too.

Funniest shit is when groups of bleeding-heart types would often pass through to watch the coyotes and object to us shooting them. We'd set up our spots right there next to them and shrug our shoulders just to spite them. Had one holier-than-thou bus driver lady and her hubby tell me that I should be ashamed of myself. I replied that IDGAF and if they don't want to be 'upset' or 'traumatized', they should GTFO before the 'yote shows up in the field. Because when it shows up it is going to get zapped. They didn't stick around for the jackpot.
