Hello new to the site I'm looking at buying a 700 5R in 300 win. I'm not sure on barrel length 24 or 26. I like the fact that the 24 inch barrel can come threaded from remington. I will be putting a can on this. Will I loose out on velocity and muzle energy by going with a 24 inch barrel vs. 26. Or should I just go with the 26 inch barrel and have a gunsmith thread it for me. Looking to eventually reach out to a 1000 yards, as I learn to shoot these long distances.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

A 26 can always be cut down but you would be stuck with the 24. I say get the 26 and shoot it while you wait for the form 4 to go through (you will have plenty of time trust me) and then you can decide. I like handier rifles, so I generally err on the short side, but i handled a 26" 700P in 300WM this past weekend and it wasnt bad at all.

Agreed can always cut it once you get your can. All of my rifles have 25, 26 inch barrels. I dont think youd notice a dif tho till you start out to the longer ranges

A 24" will get you out to 1,000. However, i would stick with the 26" on a .300 WM. Like some of the other posters suggested you can always cut it down to 24" if you wish.
