New Rem 700 AAC, .308, shoots sub moa with FGMM168. However, more often than not it just rattles the empty casing out on top of the next round and doesn't eject. Extractor seems to have decent tension, but I can wiggle it a bit side to side. Nothing to compare it to - any suggestions?

Plunger is free, spring has tension - again, nothing with which to compare it, though.

What seems to happen is that as soon as the end of the case clears the chamber the ejector tension causes the end of the casing to kick over against the edge of the receiver just in front of the ejection port. When that happens, the extractor loses it and it just drops down and rattles onto the next round in the magazine. Dump it out the side and repeat.

Sounds like ejector tension. Could be maybe some crud under the extractor too.

Is this a new gun, something you got used? How did the brass eject before...threw them out or dump them just outside the port?

Without a frame of reference it will be difficult to determine exactly what the issue is. In stead of trying to chase down the problem, I'd just replace the ejector/extractor and be done with it. When you do, you can tune the ejector to drop the case where you want....easy to replace and can be done on the bench in a few minutes.

One thing a lot of people do so they don't continue to have the extraction issues the 700 is known for is have a Sako or AR15 type extractor installed on the bolt.

I have the same issue with the R700 300 Win mag I just picked up.... Remington QC is progressing downward. Chain, make sure you check the threads on your AAC, the depth of the threads of my buds were off so bad had to have it rethreaded. Don't want to mess up that new SDN-6...

Thanks, guys - I sent the bolt off to Mark at SAC to check out. He had done some other work to the barreled action (including cut to 18 and re-thread, but thanks for the headsup, Charger23) so he's gonna peek at the extractor and ejector. If the extractor needs changing, I may just have him do the M16 extractor upgrade while it's there. I love the little rifle, and my budget won't allow a full custom, so this rifle is worth an upgrade if it's needed.
