Rem 700 PTG Bolt

The bolts are not drop in. Yes some people have got LUCKY and it worked. I personally would stay away from anything ptg. There was a large ptg thread on SH before. Do a search. If you must use ptg, DO NOT order from them. Get it from 2nd or 3rd party (midway, brownells). Use a reputable smith, not billy joes-second cousin’s-ex wifes-BF because he will do it cheap

I run Surgeon actions but i want to do a budget build on a Rem 700 w a bolt upgrade. I’m still waiting to here back w a price from GAP. Price will determine if I go Surgeon or Rem.

I had a 300WM M24 solicitation rifle that used a PTG bolt with straight handle and the action and bolt were both nitrided. It was very smooth running and feeding. No issues at all and I wouldn't hesitate to use one. The issue is getting stuff from PTG... GOOD LUCK... They'll tell you weeks and you won't have it months and months down the road. I know people who have waited a year for stuff that was supposedly in stock. Unless Midway or someone has the one you're looking for in stock, I'd pass.

Also by time you start modding a R700, you will have almost as much money into it as a custom and if you ever go to sell the rifle you'll have a harder sale and take a larger loss. Not saying there's anything wrong with a R700, but when you're talking $350 to true it, $150 for a bolt, $100 to pin a recoil lug, plus the cost of the lug, then $100-$150 for a rail which most aftermarkets have built in, it's just not worth it.

Anyone here run a REM 700 LA MAG w a PTG Bolt? Curious how they run?

I have tried to order a couple reamers from PTG over the past 2 years and the customer service was so bad that I had to give up on them and go find another reamer maker.
There is a possibility of slow response time for questions and slow delivery time for your product (bolt) if it is not in stock.

Good luck.

I have one. I had my gunsmith true it to my receiver. Be sure you order the right size. It takes anywhere from 5-9 weeks to get it. But it’s smooth and I haven’t had any issues with it.

As others have said, it sometimes takes a very long time to get stuff from them, but I've gotten several bolt and plenty of reamer, bottom metal, extractors etc. from them and the quality has always been exceptional.
