I'm looking for a .223 to fill the void until I do a full build. The SPS Tactical looks like it might work for now. I'm pretty sure the twist is 1-9, does anyone have any experience with this rifle? Will it stabilize the 75g A-max? I'd like to shoot out to 700.

Re: Rem 700 SPS Tactical

The 75gr Amax seems to be hit and miss in the Rem 1-9, I've known some to shoot it great and it tumbles in others. Could be lot to lot of bullets or the not so accurate Rem rifling.

Try some shorter bullets, 69 grainers, maybe the 77s made to use at mag length in ARs, etc. Find a Berger that says it will shoot in a 1-10" and try that for a start.

Re: Rem 700 SPS Tactical

You might want to measure a patched rod thru there as some 1,200 early production SPS Tacs came with 1-12 barrels (I got one). Remington changed it out for me. Great rifle. Near 1/2" moa with right loads. I shoot 69 grain Nosler CC 24.0 H4895 exclusively. My range is limited to 500 yards, but it still groups less than moa out there. I'm sure 700 would be no problem.

Good Luck.
