Remington 700 5R

Re: Remington 700 5R

I have to raise the BS flag on this one (I hope!). The rifle is popular, they only recently introduced the threaded versions and the 20" .308; I think Remington knows they have something that people actually want with the 5R mil-spec.

Re: Remington 700 5R

Well to put this to rest.
Since there are some Canadians on this forum
The following came from Ellwood epps a fairly large gun dealer in western canada.

4 January 2012

Kyle:

The particular Remington rifle that you are seeking has already been sold. Unfortunately, Remington has discontinued this model and it is no longer available for purchase.

Re: Remington 700 5R

I call shenanigans on this one.

Re: Remington 700 5R

I would go to another dealer. LOL.

A small retail dealer once told me that I should only buy from small dealers because manufacturers provide the best only to dealers and larger stores (Cabelas, Bass Pro, Dick's, etc) only receive the avg or below avg products. And that the exclusive sales were the products which barely met the manufacturers' standards, thus their lower price.

Re: Remington 700 5R

Thats certainly one way to spin look at economies of scale and large order discounts.

Seems like a dealer around Austin was saying the same thing about 300WM 5Rs. I have no idea if this dealer knows what he's talking about though.

Re: Remington 700 5R

I just bought mine a week or so ago. They checked their warehouse and they had 85 of them in stock. So there shouldn't be any problems getting one. BTW mine says 10th anniversary on it. It was in the new 2012 shipment.

Re: Remington 700 5R

Does anyone have .243 SS Remington? I wonder if the action is as smooth as their 5r's?

I bet the 10th anniversary model is a premium rifle. No manufacture would want to stamp their second best as their anniversary model. Should shoot like a MF!

Re: Remington 700 5R

I'd say he's trying to sell you something else, that he has on hand, and trying to get rid of? Just a {evil} thought. I got mine a couple weeks ago, too. Went back to the store, today, and they had 2 more in the rack. One looked like a 300 mag, from the magazine on it, But I didn't pick it up. Though I was tempted If you look on Guns America, there's a bunch of them for sale. They don't seem to be that hard to find, where I come from. Wilmington De., USA. I've known some dealers who didn't have a source for a gun I wanted. Went to another store, and it was "no problem". If I ran a gun store, like I ran my construction business, I'd go to the "ends of the earth", to make a client happy.

Yes. I could be wrong, but I don't think Epps is one of them. I have only ever seen the 5R available new from Frontier. They have a limited stock every year. There may be another premier dealer in Canada, but I'm not aware of it... which isn't meant to imply I know everything.

Re: Remington 700 5R

I believe the 10th anniversary was 2011 being they were first introduced in 2001. I also heard they make a run of 500 a year, not sure if any of this is true but I have seen this info on several sites. And this being a premium gun don't believe it, the throat on mine is extremely long and the chamber is .oo5 larger than the cheap ADL I just bought and the firing pin and or bolt hole is to small or big depends on how you look at it. Basicly the primer flows into the bolt. It shoots ok though, nothing to write home about.

Re: Remington 700 5R

I ordered a .300WM Milspec 5R 24" threaded (Model 88508) last Tue, it was delievered Friday and they had 70+ in stock.

All the threaded ones are acusport exclusives. The had all of them in stock though, threaded and non-threaded.

Mine is going in a Mcrees Precision stock and getting a Vortex Razor up top.

Re: Remington 700 5R

I just checked again and acusport has every model in stock including:

.223 non-threaded
.308 non-threaded
.300 non-threaded
.223 threaded
.308 threaded
.300 threaded

I am fairly new on here so I am not sure if I am allowed to offer up ordering them for someone, but If I am speak up and I will price them. If not I will edit and take out this paragraph.

It would be through Beech Grove Firearms in Indianapolis, IN and not through my personal FFL/SOT. I only deal in NFA items with mine, but I work there also as the director of marketing.

p.s. phylodog can vouch for me.

Re: Remington 700 5R

I don't see the 5R listed under Remingtons 700 site, is this an option under one of the other models? I've been researching my first build in 300 WM and was considering the Sendaro but I keep seeing good review references to the 5R.

Thanks,
Steve

Re: Remington 700 5R

When I bought mine last month, I went to Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops and those guys had no clue about it. One guy at Bass even told me I was crazy/high and that no such thing exists. SO I went to a local gun shop (not big box store) and he had both the 24" anniversary edition and 20" threaded.

Re: Remington 700 5R

I just bought my 5R last month from Buds for $1001. It is a .308 "10th Anniversary" edition with 24" barrel. At the time there were several 5Rs listed at Buds and at other dealers' websites. Do a search if you really want one.....they are available.

I just checked Buds and they have three 5Rs listed:

20" .308 for $1075
24 .308 for $1075
24" .223 for $1068

Re: Remington 700 5R

Thanks for the info, I saw those on buds. I'm looking for a 300 win mag. Are there any other reputable online dealers to look at? Call me paranoid but I'm always a little cautious when purchasing high priced items online. Thank you for all the responses, I appreciate them all.

I purchased mine (10th Anniversary 5R 24") from Franksguns.com for $999 and the 20" threaded 308 and 223 for $1019.

Franks is local to me, but I've never made it in there. He has a good rep around here.

Re: Remington 700 5R

And Franks Guns is where I was able to purchase both my 5R rifles from. I paid $969.00 each. One is a .308 and one is a .223

My 308 spanks the pants off my .223 as far as accuracy and consistency.
