I may have a chance to pick up a used 700 with x-mark trigger very reasonably. What are the chances of parting it out and use the receiver to build a 700 police clone. Anyone no of leads on the police stock (I think it is a Hogue)? Also will replace barrel with one that is closer to actual model. Am I wasting money?

Don't think you can go wrong with that. If you have a place you can get it for $400 and are planning on re-barreling it anyway, go for it. Most places are out of stock for just a plain action that I'm seeing anyway, and if they were in stock, you would be paying the same price for one that you are getting this one for. Just check the bolt face and extractor and firing pin to make sure it looks like it is in good working order. As you said, you are also planning on getting the barrel swapped on it, etc... I would also swap out the trigger (Timney, TriggerTech, etc...). Easy to do by knocking out a couple of pins with a punch - just watch some YouTube videos because you will more than likely knock out the pin with the bolt retention spring and then have to figure it out how it goes back in again (yep, I speak from experience), but it's not hard or have your gunsmith do it when you have them put a new barrel on it and headspace it for you.

I'm more of chassis guy as I like all the adjustments I can make to have the weapon fit me or if I have to make any adjustments for another shooter, but that's just a personal pref thing. You certainly can make a standard stock fit you.

Sounds like a fun project!! Good luck and post some pics as it develops!!

The Remington 700 police uses a HS Precision stock wich is pretty nice but you will want a stock pack or similar to get the comb height right.

It sounds like a doable project but I doubt it will be that much cheaper compared to getting a proper one from the get go.

$400 for a Remington action or a complete rifle is good. They're high lots of places now given they're out of production and a good platform for building. HS Precision stock is easy add. Pick up a varmint contour barrel and you're there. Don't think you're on the wrong track.

Are you having the action trued and an aftermarket barrel put on or are you just looking to collect various used factory rem parts to put together?

Reason I ask is if your looking to build a 700p clone with a good gunsmith putting it together with quality aftermarket parts you will have a awesome shooting rifle. If your just trying to piece it together with various factory parts I'd skip buying this rem adl and just buy a 700p rifle used and have the rifle you want. From what I remember those older 700p rifles shot well.
