Looking for some info on specs for a 700p.

The Remington LE sight says it comes std with a 40-x trigger.

Any idea how to adjust the 40-x trigger? Is it better than the X-mark Pro trigger?

Is the fit and finish better on a 700p when compared to a SPS or Varmint.

Is it worth the 400.00 more for the 700p?

Re: Remington 700p

I bought my 700P about six years ago so the trigger may be different. As far as the extra $$$ while I was looking at buying mine I called Remington to ask them what was the difference between the 700 Varmint, and the then PSS. They told me that the PSS has the HS Precision stock with the bedding block, and the PSS is guarenteed to shoot 1moa with Fed Gold Medal Match. The Varmint had no accuracy guarentee on the 1moa.

I think it's worth it for the stock and the accuracy. Next step up is the 40X so thats your decision. I love my PSS and couldn't be happier with it.

Re: Remington 700p

Yes It comes with the 40x trigger.

The trigger surface is serrated. Is it better than the X-mark pro? Yes, It's pretty good, but mine was not consistant. Pull weight would vary a lot. Adjusting procedures can be found online.

Fit and finish is the same as the SPS or Varmint.

How much are you finding it for? It should not be more than 200 more than the SPS. I would say the 5R is the next step up then the 40x.

The P also has a heavier barrel. Mine was able to do 1 moa out to about 800 yards.

The stock is good, I think adequate, whereas I would replace the SPS stock right off the bat. I placed mine in an AICS however.

I don't know about the 40-X, it can't be worse than the X-mark pro.

The fit and finish should be the same, the bare barreled action is made the same as the SPS-Varmint, same rifling, same profile, same length.

The big differences are trigger, though I was previously unaware, actual finish, the Police is parkerized

, the V is sandblasted and blued

, the P comes in a much better stock, the V comes in a rubbermaid.

The things to consider. If the trigger is better, that's a potential $150+ savings. Parkerizing is far less maintenance intensive (not maintenance free) than "matte bluing", kind of a moot point if you plan to paint it or have the metal coated, though park does work well as a base for some. If you want to use the rifle in inclement weather you save allot of hassle or $60+ for a durcoat job by getting the parkerized P. If you like the HS stock that's a $200+ savings. My V shoots MOA, I doubt remmy actually accuracy tests the P, but they may, maybe that's how they decide which go on to parkerizing or bluing, regardless, if you got a V that didn't shoot MOA, that gaurantee might be worth several hundred at the smith to you.

So if you won't change the stock or trigger on the P and are content to occasionally oil you're parkerizing you'd have a field ready rifle for $10 or more less than if you got a V that had a crap X-mark, and you had it coated because wiping it down daily gets old in the field. If you like the X-mark and wipe the rifle down everytime it leaves the safe, you might save $200 with the V, the stock has to go. If you plan to change everything, get the V, you can't recover the difference selling the P's stock.

As a footnote, I'm into my V for around $850, inc. rifle, B&C A3, Timney 510, and FDE Duracoat on the metal.
