So I have been looking at these just as they are intended. A budget hunting rifle. What have the real world experiences with them yielded? I have searched but my search-foo is weak with the new site format.

Any opinions are welcome but please let them be based off of real world usage.

I hadn't heard of these before you asked. I searched google and their top listings were from January '13. I can't imagine not going to a pawn/gun shop to pick-up a tried and true for the same money. If you want a savage then buy a savage. IMO I have shot the 770's, and, you couldn't give me one and expect me to keep it. Poor fit/ finish really a plastic feel. Yes, I'm an old codger.

Yep pick up a 700 adl for the same money and you can't go wrong. They may shoot ok but I can't get over the ugliness. The bolt knob is tacky, stock made from recycled pringle lids, and a trigger guard from a benelli super black eagle II. Sorry you haven't got anything you asked for like real world experience with them but I really think anybody that could write a decent report prob bought something else with their hard earned money. Good luck in your search though.

Somebody who owns an AI and a GAP should know that you get what you pay for. The 783 is the lowest grade of rifle there is, whether they work or not is a moot point when for another $50 you can get an ADL that you know works and will have resale value. Also take a look at the Weatherby Vanguard's.

You are correct. I know you get what you pay for. I was looking at it more for a gift but I will just set them up a 700 ADL and be done. We didn't get to learn anything new on this one unfortunatly.

Thanks for all the reply's. I will let this thread die now.

Folks that buy the 783 probably hang out some where else. It's not what SH folks buy, use, etc.

So there is a 19 page thread on the cheap Savage Axis/Edge but you doubt some one here would buy a 783? The Savage is $100 less and lots of those people hang on here. I don't think that cost determines who is cool and who is not.

Please guys there is not constructive info coming from this thread. Let it die.
