I just purchased the rifle I mentioned in the subject line, brand new for about $1,857.00 including tax. However, I was unable to find the rifle on Remington's website. Also, the manual that came in the carton is very generic and has no specific information on the rifle other than typical Remington 700 safety and operation instructions. I looked on the rifle itself, and could not find any information other than the model, serial no., etc. The gun store I bought it from had not a clue what type of stock it has on it, what kind of bedding is in that stock, how many rounds the mag holds, or what the barrel twist rate is. I suspect the stock is an HS Precision and that it would have aluminum V-Block bedding. But the rubber butt pad says Remington on it. I've been searching this forum for half an hour and can't find anything on it.

What I want to know about it (at least) is:

1. What is the twist rate of the 26" barrel?
2. How many rounds can the magazine hold?
3. What type of stock & bedding does it have?
4. Why can I not find any data on the web about the rifle other than a couple youtube vids of guys shooting it?
5. Does anyone else on here own this particular type of rifle?
6. How long ago was this rifle introduced to the market?

Thanks in advance gentlemen.

What I want to know about it (at least) is:

1. What is the twist rate of the 26" barrel?
Mine was 1:10, but it's more like a 24.5" barrel. When Remington says 26, they are including the length of the muzzle brake.
2. How many rounds can the magazine hold?
I believe it's 5.
3. What type of stock & bedding does it have?
Standard 700P HS stock with aluminum block.
4. Why can I not find any data on the web about the rifle other than a couple youtube vids of guys shooting it?
Not sure. They've never been listed.
5. Does anyone else on here own this particular type of rifle?
A handful of people do. I had one, but it's gone now.
6. How long ago was this rifle introduced to the market?
Not entirely sure, but I think the older generation (with HS bottom metal) was around 2006; and the one you have came out around 2008.

Re: Remington Model 700 Police 338 Lapua questions

Thanks MtnCreek, that helps out tremendously. I'll have to spend some more time to go through all the rest of the posts on that one and already I've got the info I need from it. Very handy.

Re: Remington Model 700 Police 338 Lapua questions

Very fair question, I'll answer it pragmatically. I knew I wanted a rifle that shot .338 Lapua magnum, and I liked the overall profile of this one better than some of the other .338 Lapua rifles on the market such as the 110BA and the AR-30, and if I'm not mistaken for a cheaper cost as well (granted it doesn't have as fancy a muzzle brake or stock as the 110BA or the AR-30 but I just like the Rem 700 police profile more). I knew it had a Remington 700 action, which is a proven design. I inspected the bore of the rifle and other things at the store to make sure there was nothing major wrong with it, then bought it. I did look on the web for a few days before deciding to get it, and failed to find information on it. Lo and behold there's this one drawn out post on here that I missed somehow despite putting the appropriate keywords in my search that holds an abundance of information on the rifle; indeed, it confirmed that my faith in Remington was justified. 9.5" groups at 1000 yards, 1:10 twist rate, etc. I also picked up on my radar that it's a somewhat uncommon rifle and decided I may not have another chance to grab one over the counter. However, there are a gagillion other posts I've yet to read, so who knows, maybe there's bad news somewhere in it. In principle, though, you're absolutely right - dropping 2 G's on a rifle you can't get any dope on seems rash.
