Greetings guys, i am a newcomer without much knowledge looking to see if someone could help me out. I am purchasing a remington 700 sps tactical in .223. I'm looking at a bell and carlson a2 stock, I was wondering if it is a drop in fit or if and how much work it is to make it fit correctly, it has a heavy barrel. Also i was wondering if anyone knows any other good upgrades i can make to make it a smooth, accurate rifle.
Thank You!

Re: REMINGTON SPS TACTICAL .223 UPGRADES

Welcome to the hide. The stock is supposed to bolt right on without issue but sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. Today I worked on a B&C light tactical with a dremel because my bolt was not closing all the way. They are pretty good stocks for the money though. You will probably also want to get a different trigger. I had a shilen trigger installed yesterday in my sps tactical and I already love it. You might also want detachable bottom metal and a new knob. There is also action truing and barrel swapping but mine was shooting sub half inch groups right out of the box with handloads so my action will not be trued till I wear my barrel out. Good choice on the rifle I think you will enjoy it.

That is what my 223 tact rested in for a short while. It was drop in but if you get a spider web pattern on it you may need to sand a little of it out of (the web) the barrel channel, the web paint was all that needed to be removed as the rest was fine.

Re: REMINGTON SPS TACTICAL .223 UPGRADES

I say get the stock and bed it and just shoot for a while. Save the money for ammo before you splurge on any other upgrades. Then if accuracy dictates more work go head and get it. Your SPS should be fine till you either realize you like the shooting or get bored and move on. The SPS Tac is a solid platform minus the stock to get started

Re: REMINGTON SPS TACTICAL .223 UPGRADES

Thanks for the heads up. I plan on ordering the stock this week I was going to order I green with black webbing but ithink I will just order black. Anytime I have to do any sanding I generally over do it, I would really hate to mess this up.

I don't have have any optics yet either, any thoughts on a millet TRS1

Get a SWFA SS 3-9x42 FFP/MIL/MIL for 600bucks. I would also lap the lugs, this is a DIY for you. Then get a Tact. knob done by AZ Precision on here, and if you don't want to spend a lot on 20moa base and 30mm rings go with Warne they make a solid product that will save you some money. And I would go with the green web B&C it looks way better in person than in a pic on the web you will be glad you got it. Good Luck.

Re: REMINGTON SPS TACTICAL .223 UPGRADES

there are two places you can find off the rimfirecental site that has pretty good prices on those bell stocks..
getting another stock for your rem is a great start on improving the gun. my sps-v also in 223's plastic stock is now a H-S off a pss.
oh, get a good scope!!
good shooting!
