Hello Sniper's Hide!

I have been obsessing for the last few months about building a new rifle. I have read countless threads on this website and I can say that the members of this site seem to really have their stuff together. I have always been interested in long range shooting but never had the funds to get what I wanted until now. I grew up shooting, but never over 200 yards or so due to a lack of knowledge, need, or proper equipment. I want to start shooting much farther distances and also use it to hunt with. My current deer shooter is a Browning BAR 30-06 with a Leupold scope. It's not the most accurate gun in the world but it has a lot of sentimental value to me and I'm tired of dragging it into the woods (it's in immaculate condition). I typically hunt white tails and hogs, but I would really love to go elk hunting in the next year or two (hence the need for .300 WM).

Anyway, I finally narrowed it down to the gun that I wanted (per title) only to find out that it is back ordered. My questions are as follows...

Does anyone have any information as to when this unit might be available?
Does anyone have a lead to where I can find one in stock somewhere?

I plan on using a Nightforce 5.5-22 x 56 with high speed turrets/zero stop and the NP-R2 reticle. I have been looking at rings/bases/etc. for it lately. I have been doing a tremendous amount of reading on this site and I have learned a TON. I am highly interested in the mathematics involved with shooting and I feel like I just might have been dyed-in-the-wool sniper in a past life lol. I am a mechanical engineer by trade and I'm very familiar with the geometry/physics involved with shooting but I'm looking to expand my knowledge even further with the help of places like this. Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

Well its got a really nice trigger.

Its stainless with a decent coating over the top which is a plus.

Overall the rifle looks like a good bit of gear especially with that trigger.

I would say, if its exactly what your after and you would never ever change a thing, its a nice rifle.

If you think you might change the stock in the future, then perhaps maybe its not the best choice as you could buy something cheaper and feel less guilty not utilising a crappy stock.

In regards to when its available, I cant help you as I dont know.

IMO, your better off going with a cheap SPS. Then put a stock and a new barrel on it. You won't have to wait and there's a much better chance the rifle will shoot.

Or better yet, just go with a custom. It wouldn't be much more expensive.

I've had mine for almost 3 years now and I'd say get one if you can find one. It took me about 4 months to round mine up though. You'll love the trigger and the coating. I have just over 1500 rounds through it and it still shoots but I think that's only because I moly coated the barrel and all of my bullets at 300 rds. I've got it topped with a NF NXS 5.5-22x56 MIL/MIL and Badger rings/base. I put a Badger bolt knob and FTE on too but I'm not sure I have a recent pic? It wears a Gemtech Sandstorm most of the time and I've shot it out to 1500yds. 1 in 10 twist will enable you to lob out the heaviest of the .30 cal boolits. Mine likes a 208 grain moly coated A-max over 81.5grns of Retumbo in WIN brass with FGMM primers. Nets me 3050fps. I picked up a Rock 5R barrel blank so I'm ready for a re-barrel when the time comes. I dropped it into a McM A-5 with Badger M5 a while ago but took it out cuz I'm not going to bed it until I re-barrel. Good luck with your search, I don't think you'll find anyone with a rifle like this that wouldn't recommend it. You could go cheaper but if you have your heart set on something like this, you best just get one.

Thanks for the replies guys! I am pretty set on this rifle. I have been looking for months. I am really attracted to the stainless, the barrel, and the trigger. I really like the looks of the gun and it's got everything I could want in a rifle IMO. I might upgrade to an Accuracy International 2.0 stock one day when I get bored, but I'll probably shoot it as is for a while. This gun is most certainly going to be able to out shoot me (for a while at least).

One other question that I had was what kind of ballpark price am I looking at for having a barrel threaded for a brake/suppressor?

In my area, barrel threading for a long gun is $150.00 which includes either a thread protector or timing a customer supplied brake

I have one and its become my elk rifle of choice pushing a 200 gr Accubond. Drops em ust like my 338LM and lots lighter. You can't go wrong with one.

Not gonna persuade you from buying that particular rifle, but for your needs, there ARE a lot of other options, and if you stuck with just the Rem platform, you only have like a 1000 different ways to go there, and since you plan on swapping out stocks anyways, dont have to wait, could save some money to boot..... Just saying.

Why don't you look at the Sendero? Basically the same rifle just not as "tacticool" but a can of krylon would solve that.They're pretty plentiful in most places. Either way good luck on your choice...

I waited a few months to find one, and got one around xmas. i LOVE the rifle. All I have done to it is throw a nice scope on it. I have recently started handloading for it, and found a good 3/4" load using 208Amax and H1000 for mine. Its a great looking rifle as well as very capable. I recommend if thats what you want, wait for it.

I say go for it. You will be mad at yourself if you didnt get that rifle and got something cheaper. What if something happens that makes money tight...well your stuck with a cheaper rifle you didn't even want in the first place. I say buy it as soon as you can, shoot the thing till it won't shoot no more and then rebarrel. If you plan on hunting with it get the Tacticool stocks out of your head "especially the AICS 2.0" The stock on it is just what you need. Anyways good luck. I on the other hand went the other direction. I bought a really old and used Rem 700 Longaction in 7remMag to build my .300wm off of and now I am haveing to save for every thing I want done to the rifle plus the 800 bucks to smith the damn thing, check to check blue collar guy so the build won't be done anytime soon. Well I "pulled the trigger" so to speak and literally lol. I ended up finding my rifle in Iowa and having it shipped here. It feels like a seriously solid piece. The trigger is unlike anything I've felt before (40-x adjustable). I never really even understood what "breaks like glass" meant until I squeezed it for the first time lol. So far, I have picked up a Pelican 1750 case and a Harris bi-pod for it, but I'm thinking of swapping the Harris for an Atlas and Accu-Shot combo.

I ordered the scope (Nightforce 5.5-22x56 HS/ZS NP-R1) monday after looking for a few weeks then sending out some mass emails lol. I actually found two in stock, but one was located in Texas and I didn't want to pay the tax on it. I picked up the 20MOA Nightforce base, ultralight 1" rings, level ring cap, and a 30mm alignment/lapping kit.

This is getting out of hand. While I was ordering the lapping kit, I picked up some 10/22 parts, then I realized I had the makings of what will eventually be called "a problem" lol.

Good looking rifle. Congrats on getting what you have your heart set on. Pretty clean job on the foam as well. Although you might want to flip it so that the scope mount is toward the handle, for scope protection purposes.

uh.. so you plan to lap the ultralight rings?! do they really need it? mine seem to grip the 30mm tube so tightly even before the screws are torqued down it didnt even cross my mind lol

I have one of those and have never shot it. I bought it lightly used and the barrel had been threaded already. I have been very critical about Remington QC but this one is top notch. I inspected the bore with my bore scope, checking the locking lugs, trigger pull and overall fit and finish. It is impressive. I got a deal on a Surgeon Scalpel in 300 WM soon after getting the XCR and basically forgot about it.

Hey, I am torn between the Remington 5R and the Remington XCR tactical long range. I would like to be able to shoot out to 1000 yards at some point, most of my shots while hunting have been under 500 yards to date. It would mainly be a hunting rifle. I have a Tikka T3 SS in 300 win mag with a 24" barrel and 1 in 11" twist but just don't think this gun would be capable of what I want to do. I have found the 5R in 24" and 26" barrels, which one would be better? I always thought the 26" would be better for long range in the 300 win mag. They are both about the same price so it mainly comes down to which one is going to be best at what I'm looking to do with it. Also having troubles locating both of them. Thanks for any advice

I had one for a while and I really liked it, just sold it to finance another build. I never had a problem getting handloads to shoot extremely well out of it.

I dipped my stock and got the bolt fluted and it looked pretty nice. Enjoy your rifle, it should be a shooter, mine was.
