Im thinking about replacing my barrel on my savage 10fp to improve accuracy. Dont get me wrong the rifle is good as is but Im just wondering if the replacement barrel would be money well spent.

Info???

And if so what would be a good recommendation and where to buy

Thx
Donnie

donnie, you will find a list in several threads on this that are on the board. use the search, it will find a bunch. jim at northland shooters supply has kreiger and mcgowen and shilen. there are a bunch of drop ins available and its easy to do yourself.

I put a 260 rem shilen prefit on mine. Got it off midway last year. I did it for a caliber swap, but I will say that accuracy is fantastic. I shot the stocker for a long time and it was shooting well when I took it off, but I would say I shoot the 260 much better. Less recoil etc, so could be mostly me. Not really a fair comparison though as far as accuracy goes.

Id say go for it. I don't think you will be unhappy with it, especially if you are wanting to shoot a different round. The swap is easy and only takes 10 or 15 minutes at most.

Any thought to a 6.5 mm variant lol?

Went with Brux on my 10FP. Very pleased. Factory barrel shot well but the Brux shoots better and is much more consistent even with this wingnut behind the trigger.

Call Pac-Nor! They have very fast turn around times and make fantastic barrels.

+1 on Jim Briggs at Northlander Shooters Supply. He carries Criterion barrels, and is the sole disctributor for their pre threaded and chambered barrels for Savage rifles. These barrels are button rifled Kreiger blanks and have received great reviews.

Re: Replacing my Savage 10fp barrel ( help )

There's a boat load of good barrels out there! Most all have been listed here. I'd give a +1 for Jim at Northland on barrels, as he has alot of prefit in stock. I did swap a factory barrel out for another brand, but I would say if you do that then make it one of the above choices. There was some gain noticed, but not a lot. More consistent yes. More accurate...yes. However I think it would behoove you to try quality ammo or reloading. I was getting .5 to .75 moa with reloads out of a factory 10fp barrel. I could also get similar results with match grade factory ammo, but the reloads I could dip, once in awhile, into the .3 to .5 range. Mostly it depended on me and how I was shooting that day. Try it and it might save you some cash for now, but eventually you'll probably want to upgrade anyhow.
