Ok, I have a question for you reloading masters... Should I buy Lapua .308 brass and neck it down to 7-08... Or should I just buy 7-08 brass?

Thanks

What is your budget?
I have been resizing .308 RP brass down to 7mm 08, I just got a custom 7mm08 barrel with a match chamber and the necks on the fired brass are still too tight to slide a new bullet back in (easly). So I am goig to neck turn the high spots down, I am sitting on 1,000 pcs of .308 brass so I am gonna spend some money in brass prep to utilize it.

Budget is not the issue, I just want to know whether or not I could neck down lapua and get a ton of reloads out of them. Or would it cause them to not last as long as normal.

Bought 200 lapua .308 when l got the new barrel (25.5" 5R Border). l don't shoot high pressure loads as the 7-08's accuracy doesn't need it, and aneal after every 4 firings.

15 firings a case, and still going :)

Don't want to start another topic. I need new Brass and currently using Win brass for my 7mm-08. I plan to get some 308 Lapua brass and neck down. I did some searching, and some say it will be a little shorter and possible thicker necks. What are your thoughts about going this route? Getting ready to purchase.

I would not worry too much with it being a little shorter and you can turn the necks down if the are too thick

I would do it.

I do the same for 270 Win from '06 as there's not otherwise readily available quality brass for the 270. Norma runs some now and then but I am a Lapua user whenever possible. My Lapua 308 brass lasts so long that I am not willing to publicly say how many times I've reloaded some of mine. The necks shouldn't thicken so much that it's a problem - especially if you use bushing dies. Btw, bushing dies are a great way to neck down incrementally. Lastly, a little thicker neck will likely fit your chamber a bit closer.

Both approaches work just fine, necking down IF you either don't need to thin the necks or you can turn them down.

I see it as a money vs. time vs. both decision.

Necking Lapua--I strongly recommend annealing them the right way right after necking down (I did some 6.5 Creedmoor and the necks were HARD).

If the price is the same, I'd just buy the 7-08 stuff.

If Lapua is even a few dollars cheaper, I'd neck down...IF I have the time.

If I were totally anal and didn't care about money OR time, I'd buy Lapua and neck it down and turn the case necks and sort them by weight afterwards and mark the weight lots on the head with a punch (dots).
