Soo, My vision is not as good as it used to be.. 50yo I've been looking for new glass, and reticle for my 300wm 5r. I've looked thru the NR 5.5-22 NPR1 and NRP2 at the range. they look thin? this was at the 100yd range. I punch paper and hunt with it. paper Punching prolley less than 800yd planned. Looks like the Permier Gen II are pretty thin on line..? Anyone have thoughts ? I don't wear readers, I cant see distance.

Re: Reticle Selection

If the NP-R1 is too thin, the MOAR is the answer. The line thickness is twice that of the NP-R1, and is great for field use. All of the ones I've played with so far have been very nice.

The Gen II Mil-Dot is NOT thin at all. It is very easy to pick up quickly and is a great reticle, IMHO. Most people like a thinner reticle, like the Gen II XR. I have scopes with both reticles and they each have their pros/cons. Of course, I also have a scope with the NP-R1 and it has it's place as well.

With the exception of shooting very small targets on paper, the Gen II Mil-Dot is probably my favorite all around reticle; however, the Gen II XR is growing on me.

Re: Reticle Selection

Sparky I feel your pain. I too have the same issue. My npr2 is tuff to keep clear at long range stuff. It is ok out to around 500 and then it starts doubling crosshairs if you will. I have sent all of my npr2's back and had mil dots installed. These are NF NXS's. The mildly are thick enough that they are just fine at any distance. I do have MOA knobs but I would rather be able to see than match! My S&B pm ll 5x25's have mildots and they work just fine as well.
Nightforce customer service told me about a new reticle coming out this July that is thicker than a npr2 but MOA based to match knobs. He said they had many customers like you and I that can't see!!
