I've got a good friend of mine hand building a M40A3 for me and I want a honest Marine Corps like data book to go with the piece, outlining the shots, shot count and other data required for these, to document the piece as well as my abysmal performance.. Any ideas? Heck, I'd like that for my other rifles, Armalite M15M4 carbine and a VTR in 308. Recommendations? This pup will see action in Idaho and Colorado. Maybe home in Texas out west.

Thanks.

I second that motion.

Re: Rifle Data Logs

If you want to make your own I know the Oregon Shooter website has a good set with many different sheets that if printed on the rite in the rain paper can make a nice book that is personalized. Just a thought these guys know far better then me though.

Re: Rifle Data Logs

I'm going to check out the Oregon Shooter site, just for data ideas and I also contacted Impact Data books. Bad idea. The guy I talked to is a ex-Marine scout sniper, so I got sucked into a discussion on the M40, information about it, so on and so forth. So, of course the book is inbound... I should know better than hangin around a bunch of Marines. Sheesh. Bubbleheads know better. Honest.

OR link

I know the guy who created this (Jim) is working on updating the sheets as well. I sent him and note asking questions and he was very very helpful. He also is nice enough to provide a Visio file so you can edit and create items as needed/wanted. Hope it helps.

(from my perspective, the only good Marine is a submarine, just saying.)
Thanks everyone for their recommendations, it's all good.

Re: Rifle Data Logs

TJO thanks for all the kind words and I am glad you are happy with your product!!

Re: Rifle Data Logs

Good question, glad I found this thread, as I was also wondering about a good data book.

Hey, anybody have a link for this Impact Data book?
Want to make sure I get the right one and not some chinese knock off, just sayin thats happened to me before when I get to googling stuff...

Re: Rifle Data Logs

Questions:
-What book do you reccommend for a beginner? I plan to shoot a 308 at targets and silouetts up to 800 yds, and hope to get into some tactical comps after I familiarize myself with my new rifle.
Is the Spiral pre-made data book the best beginner book? or the Modular? (or even the pocket version?)

Thank you in advance
DT

Re: Rifle Data Logs

Any of our premade versions will fill your needs.

The thing I like the mosta bout our 3 ring premade books is it allows you to quickly and easily add to your book as your shooting needs grow and change. So your book grows with you.

As for what size it all depends on what you like. I prefer the standard size books. If you are law enforcement or military and you need to be smaller, compact and lighter then the pocket book is the better choice.

Hope this helps if you need any other help just let me know!

Happy Shooting
Tony

If your not in the military or using your data book for Law enforcement purposes I would say the best way to start a dope book is to work from scratch. The cheaper the better, you don't want to burn a lot of money in something you may not even enjoy doing too much. Take a look at a bunch of ballistic books online, a lot of people seem to like that impact data book so there's your start point.

Go with something simple at first, work with a simple template and as you progress and begin to take more and more shots record more and more weather data.

Hell you can spend a lot of money on your first data book, but if you use about 30% of the material provided its not much worth is it?

Re: Rifle Data Logs

Good points ArifJDh!!

A well built book gives you all your tabels charts formulas and alot of good solid information that is a huge help to a new shooter. A good data book is built around its index pages and the pages found in our book come from over 20 years of combined military sniping and law enforcement experience.

The exact reason we have designed our books like we have is the fact that most books are filled with 50% of things you dont need. Our modular book allows you the shooter to pick exactly what you need in your book and build it how you shoot.

Just some added comments for you to mull over!!

Re: Rifle Data Logs

Yea the whole building the book to my needs is the reason I will prob go with Impact data but on the other hand, I have never seen a data book and know what I need. So I will prob have to start with a premade one just to see what I like and can use and dont like then customize from there...

That and do some more research i spose...

Dude their is no doubt in my mind you can go online and look around to see what people are selling. I can guarantee you don't need 75% of that crap. Unless you plan on doing the whole sniper in the belltower business.

If your not Military or Law Enforcement, don't sweat most of it.
