However, it's heavy as crap and I've got a bunch of cash in it. I'm seriously considering selling the AICS along with the NF NXS and going to something like a 700p HS precision take off stock, stock bottom metal which I have just bought, and maybe a Super Sniper 10x.

I figure it will weigh a lot less, I won't get too upset if it takes a few hits should I take it into the woods, and I can put quite a bit of cash in my pocket (which will also help me get an engagement ring). But I have a couple questions..

-HS Precision 700p stock or something else? B&C maybe?

-Super Sniper is the only thing I can think of that is a GOOD scope in its pricerange. Yes or am I overlooking a good solid scope in this area?

We all know what opinions are like but I still would like to have your opinions. There aren't any tactical matches in my area and when we shoot, it's always informal. So, what say you?

Thanks!

I know the above highlighted statement is a technical term :D, but how heavy?

Lose the can, chop the barrel to 20", weigh the bipod against a Harris (notched legs and 6-9" with swivel). Also remove the action and weigh the stock.

As for the scope, figure out what you are going to do the most and at what range, then look at the scope specs and make your decision from that.

Good luck.

Re: Rifle is too heavy and expensive, come talk to me

lop a 1/4 inch off of the end of the barrel, get it bored out to her finger diameter, buy a $1000 diamond and get it installed by a competent jeweler, ring problem solved. now for the weight.. if u like the gun, flute the barrel/mill out the stock, your killing multiple birds with 1 rifle here !!

Re: Rifle is too heavy and expensive, come talk to

Black-X, if you get ride of the rifle you are an idiot...it's too heavy for you humping it, well you are an idiot! You say you are from Kentucky, well you are an idiot. You want to sell it to get an engagement ring and give it to a cunt, well you are an idiot!

Re: Rifle is too heavy and expensive, come talk to

Ok, here is some advice that was given to me before I was married.

"Buy all your toys now, because after you get married, the money is all hers."

Another one "Have as much sex as you can before you get married. Because after you get married it gets cut off."

And another "If you put a penny in a jar every time you had sex before you were married, and took a nickle out every time you had sex after you're married, you'd still end up with money in the jar."

Of course if you're Stan the jar is empty. But then again Stan forgot how it went and was adding nickles to the jar to begin with and has been taking pennies out, and it's still empty. Lucky bastard.

With all that said, it's a tough decision. When I bought my wifes wedding ring i also bought a scope to offset the deal. It worked out. But if you need the money giving a little bit will hold huge dividends in the future.

Last time I checked it was well over 16 pounds unloaded, no sling, and without the suppressor.

I like the way you think. When my bride-to-be and I were shopping for wedding bands, she picked out a $2200 white gold and diamond band for herself. I,on the other hand, not being a big jewelry person, opted for a $40 plain titanium band, since just about everything I do (work and play) is condusive to ruining a nice ring. I explained to her that she should have a nice ring because jewelry is something she really likes, and it would have great meaning to her. With mine, the important thing to her is that I wear it, and I would be more comfortable wearing an inexpensive ring on a daily basis.
I also explained that in the same way she likes jewelry, I like guns, and since I was only spending $40 on a ring, that I should get a "Wedding Gun", because that would have great meaning to me.
She still married me, and I got my "love gun".
Now at Christmas time or birthdays or anniversary time, she can buy me parts for it ( a stock, trigger,etc...)
The great thing is, if money ever gets tight, that is one rig she can never ask me to sell. I'm a lucky guy!
To the OP, Congradulations, and good luck.

Re: Rifle is too heavy and expensive, come talk to me

I love this place, what a great thread full of even better advice, sell the fiance for another rifle,,,LMAO,,,,keep the rifle it will never leave you,,,,LMAO,,,,,for my serious opinion I would keep the rifle as is, if it's shooting great,,,,buy a cheap stick with a cheap scope and use that for running through the woods

wow. so your calling people from kentucky idiots I see? Aren't you from the state that claimed it was going to be the most dominant in college sports?

who's the idiot now?

Re: Rifle is too heavy and expensive, come talk to

+1K DO NOT SELL THE RIFLE. Instead do your research on diamonds big time, you wouldnt buy a car without extensive research would you? You will find out that Bluenile.com has the best prices on high quality diamonds. I saved thousands by shopping there and ended up with an IF diamond perfect in every way and far cheaper than crap rated diamonds of the same size at local and chain jewelry stores.

PS The ladies nowadays love princess cut and platinum!

Wow, I really appreciate the offer but this barreled action has been way too good to me to sell off. Seriously. I mean, I had it cut to 22", recrowned, and threaded and it shoots like a custom build.

Re: Rifle is too heavy and expensive, come talk to

I've got a 26" PSS barreled action in a short action M24 stock with Badger M5 bottom metal and 5 round mag. She weights 10.4 pounds without scope, rings, and sling.

About 14lbs even with TAB sling, Premier 3-15 and Atlas bipod with Seekins SRS.

Re: Rifle is too heavy and expensive, come talk to

I agree it is heavy as shit. I don't know what they were thinking building that rifle that heavy. Supposed to be for field use apparently.

I've humped it a couple weeks, dragged it while stalking and crap and yea it gets heavy. You might not be using it enough for your body to get used to the weight. Also a good sling setup will help a ton with this. Your arms won't get smoked.

I got used to the weight, but when I'd pick up other's m700s they felt like twigs. Shooting from standing is hell and unsupported (cept for sling) prone was retarded because of the weight.

The only thing I can see being an advantage is the folding stock. Great for transport (I have a shorty storm i3100) and shooting from awkward positions that require the stock to be folded. But if you're just hunting and not practicing field craft then yea that rifle is too expensive and heavy as shit.

Nice thing about it is when I gouge the stock, a little sand paper and paint and it disappears.

AI bipods look euro gay. The harris is lighter and you can grip the shit out of it while shooting movers at funky angles because it's closer to the body. Dudes were right about the 6" to 9" harris.

Yes I lift weights and also masturbate a lot so yea, I'm in shape.

Re: Rifle is too heavy and expensive, come talk to

Big mistake in selling the rifle to fund an engagement ring, IMHO.

And I'm not against marriage. You will regret selling the rifle, this much I can promise you.

Re: Rifle is too heavy and expensive, come talk to

X,

I recently sold my best rifle in order to pay for an engagement ring to buy her a ring that SHE wanted....best decision I ever made. She loves the ring and I'm happy that she is happy. I figured you can always buy another rifle down the road, but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet to make the ole girl happy. You won't regret it, save some money and do a build the way you want to when you can afford it and you will be happy. I'm already starting to save up some cash for a build on a hunting rig as we speak. My fiance didn't ask me to sell the rifle or bitch when I want to go shoot or hunt, thats what made the decision to sell my rifle to buy a ring so easy. Make her happy without being miserable and things will work out. Just my .02 cents.

Hey Black-X,
Don't keep us in suspense! What did you decide to do?
Please tell me that magnificent rifle is still in one piece?

Re: Rifle is too heavy and expensive, come talk to me

I wouldn't sell the rifle. But at the same time don't go cheap on your ring either. Somebody posted that a woman to share your life with is priceless and I agree. if you are stuck in a rut you have to ask what do you love more? A good woman will enrichen your life in many ways. Any which way, I wish you the best of luck and let us know how it goes.
