Rimfire scope help..

I am building a new 22lr rim fire rig. Here is my situation I have two scope on my rifles now and I am going to buy another one. I have a leupy vxii 3-9x40 on a 17hmr and a bushnell elite 3200 10x40 on my 223. I am looking for a used falcon or swfa something mildot with the tactical look, but still decent quality. I use them for paper punching varmint hunting and looking to get into coyote hunting. They are getting a little to close to my house lol. What scope would you recommend and of those 2 scopes I own and one that I am going to purchase what scopes would be best for each rifle caliber. I know it is a pretty open topic just want to see what you guys think.

How far do plan on shooting?

The mildot scope I use on my long range .22lr shooting (100 - 250 yards) is the, Tasco Target / Varmint 6-24x42 w/AO... Not high quality, but it gets the job done. There are certainly better mildot scopes out there in the market, no doubt about that.

I'm sure some folks will be by with some suggestions. Knowing how far you intend to be shooting would be of help.

For the price it's got great features, glass, and it's mildot. A lot of other rimfire shooters have put this on their rifle.

Are you stuck on Falcon or SWFA? If not, look alittle higher (price range) at USO's fixed power scopes like the ST-10

I always recommend something variable power with no more than 4x on the low end (especially since you mentioned hunting with it) and like to have at least 10x on the top. Adjustable for parallax is a must.

I am very happy with my Mueller APT. 4.5-14x40mm, 30mm tube, >75 MOA of internal travel, mil/moa, exposed target turrets, AO. Completely reliable and repeatable adjustment. Picky on eye relief. Very good clarity and brightness. I end up taking a lot of shots while groundhog hunting with it on 10x so I can rough mil for range and use my mils for constants in determining wind hold. I never shoot beyond 125 on groundhogs with the .22 LR anyway, so 10x is all I "need" for hunting. The higher magnification is nice for target shooting @ or beyond 200 though.

There are many better options out there, but not for the price, imho.

What's your budget? How far do you intend to shoot?

I have a Hawke and it works well. They are well built and have good glass. 60+MOA of elevation and windage. I have the tac 30 20x half mil. I use it as an MOA reticule at 16.2x. Each tick is 2 moa at that power.

I will second the tasco varmint scope. Not the best in the market but for the price I couldn't be happier with it on my savage. Its clarity gets rough towards the higher powers but you get what you pay for

well I dont plan to shoot more than 200yards with either rimfire but the 223 mabe up to 300. My price range is around 250 and like i said i dont mind buying a used scope that offers a good warranty
