Rifle Scopes Rimfire Trainer

I know this topic has been beaten over and over so forgive me. Looking at upgrading the scope which I currently have on my 77/22LR to something that's better quality. I've looked at new and used from Vortex, Falcons, Bushnell, SWFAs, and everything else. My 22 is my only rifle and haven't had the need for anything else truthfully. Not much of a hunter, just a shooter who likes to challenge himself.

Here's what I'm looking for in the scope:

Mil/Mil or MOA/MOA as long as its the same I don't care. I can adapt.
FFP isn't a necessary, but I'd like to try one
Side Focus is preferred over adjustable objective
zero stops aren't necessary, but is preferred
No preference to new or used.
Power: top end 16 or so, nothing lower then 14.
Finally price: $560 is my top end. College student on a budget.

Look around for a used Vortex PST SFP 4-16x50mm. That would be the titties!
Or, there's the Vortex HS-T for a little less money.

IMO, Midways BSA tactical 4-14x42 FFP mil/mil is the best scope going for the money/$250. One of the features I appreciate the most is the 10Y min parallax. I have 3 ofthem, no problems. The glass is isn't bad in em, not great either. Spend the other $310 on better ammo like Wolf or SK, that is if you can find some.

Next step up is the SWFA 3-15, gonna be hard to find one for $560, low $600's might be doable???

That's what I used say. Typically I hate cheap scopes, however I love FFP scopes, this BSA tactical works for 22's and air rifles just fine.
Actually this is the only BSA scope I'd own. From what I've read Midway specs it higher than a standard BSA. Remember this is for a 22 not a centerfire.

BTW, I've owned quite a few expensive scopes, most of the top names, as long as a scope tracks well a guy can hit stuff whether the scope costs $4000 or $250.

There is a demo SWFA SS 3-15x42 available right now for $599. IMO, it is currently the most compelling "high end" rimfire-able scope I'm aware of. It will (side)focus down to 7 yards, has lots and lots of elevation travel, wide mag range, great glass, mil/mil, FFP, and 10 mils of hold over in the reticle. This setup, especially with a 20 moa rail, will the provide the most long-range capability to the little .22lr.

I've looked at the 3-15 and for the most part do like the scope, just not sure about the reticle. Beggars can't be choosers.

I've got a couple of rimfire trainers....its really hard to be a SWFA SS mil/mil. I've got a 10x and a 12x....love them both. The 10x is on a CZ 455 trainer in the manners stock.....timney trigger, atlas bipod, etc.....and I don't feel like the scope is holding me back at all......I shoot small steel out to 400 frequently with it.

Consistently disappointed with the service and treatment at the local Cabelas. Go to look at scopes and basically get the you're not good enough.

Did fondle a Viper PST 4-16x44 mil/mil. Nice scope, good glass.

Another vote for the Midway BSA 4-14x Tactical.

Nice rimfire scope for $250.

It's come down to the BSA 4-14 or the SWFA SS in either 12 or 16x.

I've got the BSA 2-14 on my MkII in a manners stock. I like the scope, a couple weeks ago I was practicing positional stuff on the steel range with and 6.5 CM then got the .22 and did the same thing, dialing it to 300 meters, back to 100 yards, out to 200 meters etc.. It has enough travel to do that with a CCI standard velocity bullet, and it tracked up and down without any hiccups. I'm buying three more, one for my wifes .22, and two for my nephews first rifles which are also .22's. I get to teach them how to use the reticle and dial for distance.

Id get something with a little more magnification if you want to see your .22lr holes in paper at 100. vortex 6-24 works great on mine. SFP version is perfect since you wont take it off max anyway. OR SWFA has a SS at a set 20x for 299 plus its mil/mil and a great reticle.With a .22lr I doubt you will dial down mag much unless you want more FOV. I needed all I could get to see the tiny holes. a 8-32 sigtron would be a nice option as well since they have their new reticles out and matching turrets.

I'm doing a SS 10x on my .22 trainer........absolutely love it! Plenty of elevation too!!

Nothing wrong with 16x. I have had a 16x MK4 on my trainer for 4 years. Couldn't ask for better. More elevation than you could ever need in a 22lr. Rock solid.

Agree with patrick_msl! Can't beat SWFA SS 10X fixed. Their only fixed scope with side focus. I'm 65 and got the fixed 20X for my 22LR trainer. Works fine, but has the ocular focus. Can't be beat for the price and very rugged. Hold up to 50 cal. pounding. Use the money left over for practice ammo.
