Looking to see what you guys have experienced with this powder. I’ve been doing a lot of research on it and I’m getting conflicting answers.
This is going to be for a year round hunting load for my 7mag with 154gr SST’s. I have a couple hundred and I like how they perform on game from close to far. My past load was with RL 22 in this rifle at 66.2gr I believe, I would have to look at my notes but I know it was over a Hornady anemic listed max of 63.4gr. This load was safe in MY rifle. Hornady doesn’t have any data on RL 23 with this bullet so I’m looking for experience how it compared to other powders with the same bullet.
Alliant data MAX with RL 23
145gr btsp MAX of 67.8gr
160gr btsp MAX of 65.1gr
Sierra list MAX with there bullets of
150gr bullets with a MAX of 68.1gr
160gr bullets with a MAX of 67.0gr
I’m thinking to just start at 63gr charge and load in .5gr increments to 68gr. shooting single charges watching for pressure signs to get a baseline to start testing. Might as well do a ladder test while at it I figure.
Appreciate the advice guys.
Btw- this gun is just so so with H1000 or I would just jump on it and go. I’m after a temp stable year round load is my goal.
