My buddy is looking for an accurate .223/5.56 AR-15 Rifle for Varmint hunting, ground hogs and coyotes and such critters. Which of the two listed in the title would you recommend, and any others he should look at. Wants to stay under $1,200.00 rifle only. Thanks

My vote is for Rock River. I have an advanced tactical hunter. Sold my predator pursuit to get it. I like the 18 inch better. A little lighter but same accuracy and great trigger.

I have no experience with DPMS, but I own the RRA predator pursuit with the 20" barrel. It is insanely accurate with factory ammo. It shoots better than the guaranteed 3/4 moa specified by the manufacturer. The 2 stage trigger is pretty awesome. I believe that in order to beat this rifle in accuracy you'll have to cough up another $800 to $1000 more and get the top tier rifles, like LMT, Bravo Company, etc. Shooting 500 yards with this rifle is very boring. OH, BTW my rifle shoot anything whether its brass or steel cartridge without a malfunction yet about 3500 rounds.

RR would get my vote. I just bought a RR 20" Predator and its unreal how well this thing shoots!! I am shooting the 77gr bullets and it has averaged .520 for 8 5 shot groups at 100yds. I shot it last night at 200 and 300yds and the group at 200 was 1.2" and the group at 300 was 1.38" for 5 shots!! I have heavy barreled bolt guns that won't do that!!

I had a Bushmaster DCM rifle that I shot in competition in High Power. When I put my 18 power scope on it with reloads it would consistently shoot 10 shot groups under 1/2" at 100 yds. this is an all out competition rifle right out of the box. I was working the 600 yd. targets when one of the Army team members from FT. Benning, Georgia shot 10 shots at 600 yds. that I covered with my fist. THAT WAS WITH A PEEP SIGHT NOT A SCOPE.

Now I just bought a Colt LE 6920 M4 and put a Geissele SSA-E trigger which is a great trigger, but it only shoots about MOA or a little larger. Needless to say the DCM spoiled me. I am planning to swop out barrels for the one like my DCM had in it.

Here is the link for it and you could buy the hole rifle and just add a cheek piece and a scope and then you will be all set with everything including a competition trigger. I paid $1350.00 in 2000 and I bet you could get it for less today.

The barrel & bolt is just above the # 18.

I'd go with the rock river. I had a 20" bull stainless upper on an armalite lower and ended up selling it to a friend while shooting at a range. He's a blaster and has never seen tight groups. I didn't have any hand loads for it, but he had some federal ar varmint ammo or something like that. I shot some threw it of a bipod and 24x scope, and Damn it punched out a tinny little hole, 1/4 -5/16, for 5 shots, I wanted to stop at 4 lol! I was waiting on wind conditions and took prob 10 mins to shoot the group. When he seen it he said he had to have it and offered me a crazy price, so it went home with him. My RRA was a good one.
