hello i have a pmll with the mtc turrets i bought used. when i went to zero my rifle i found out i quickly ran out of elevation even though its mounted properly, i kept having to take the turret off to get more mils, this my be stupid question but how do i reset it to the factory setting, i think the previous owner made some weird adjustments to it.

Loose the set screws and slip the turret to 10 or any number really.
Tighten set screws and zero the scope on the rifle.
Loose the set screws and index the turret to zero.
Tighten the set screws.
Done.

I ran into this with my MTC S&B 3-12. I tried the above method with the scope and still could not get it to act right.

I have another S&B MTC 3-12, and it acted fine. It turned out to be that it took multiple attempts to get the MTC turret "reset" where the popup indicator was in the correct position to zero correctly and have all of the internal travel in the scope. Now it will zero correctly using the above method.

Is the popup indicator in the up position?

No the indicator is seated

Since it is down. How far can you dial up before the turret stops? At the top of its travel is the indicator up?

My scope below in the picture. It would only go up to 10.5 and stop. I was able to mess with the turret and get the indicator down and be able to travel up past 10.5.
I had to use the turret to get the scope at the very bottom of its travel and be able to dial up to close to 23 mils then turn the turret all the way back down to zero.

If your scope goes up to near the top of its travel (23 mils) from zero. Then Vargmatll instructions are all that you need.

So in order for the indicator to go down my scope is at 5 mils and won’t turn down to zero , but it spins all the way up to 22

Have you acctually sighted the scope in on a rifle yet?
If not, I dont understand what the problem is. Are you trying to get the erector back to the absolute bottom of its travel before you get going?
If so I dont see the point. Put the scope on a rifle and figure out where your combo of scope, mount, caliber and distance (preferably 100 meters or yards) is and set your zero as I described above.
Then, when that is done, you will know how much elevation you have left in your scope and with the zerostop set, you can dial back and forth to your harts content.
