i'm looking for a $1500 hunting scope

coyotes and / or antelope out to 1000 yards

i know nothing about schmidt & benders

are the adjustments in moa? i don't want mils

does it have a zero stop?

i'm thinking a nightforce 2-10 x 32 zero stop 600 yard reticle might also work

does a s & b track as reliable as a nightforce?

i assume the s & b has sharper glass than the nightforce

That is a 1" tube scope. It can be upgraded with an elevation turret, good for 3.2 mils of travel. Will get you out to 600 or so.....

I don't think I'd want a fixed power scope for a hunting scope, although I assume you'll be hunting in a pretty open area so you might be ok. Those Nightforces are in pretty high demand right now so you may have trouble finding the one you want right off... You want MOA so that should improve your chances. The one Schmidt I've used tracked spot on... They are the industry standard for nothing. Good luck.

If you aren't thinking of going with the S&B 10x42 PMII, then go with the NF, though you may come to regret such a small objective lens if you're looking at a long range hunting rig.

Johnny, what do you not like about your current Nightforce? Is it literally 'weighing you down' & you just want something lighter/more compact?

Re: S&B Fixed 10x42 vs nightforce 2-10 x 32

You don't say what type of reticle you would want and you don't mention the cartridge you intend on using as this would have a bearing on the scope you choose.

I consider a 10x fixed power scope to be a non-starter for a hunting scope.

You also don't say if you would consider SFP or FFP, if you are looking at the NF 2.5-10, that is a SFP.

Not sure why you are anti-mil adjustments.

You could go with a Leupold MK4 series and get a variable, SFP in MOA that meets your requirements or the excellent bushnell tactical series (SFP).

You could also consider the Trijicon tactical series. Excellent glass, well designed and in MOA.

Re: S&B Fixed 10x42 vs nightforce 2-10 x 32

ok, the nightforce is moa adjustments and mildot reticle

i don't know what yardages the dots represent so it might as well be a duplex

i got it a couple of years ago for my heavy barrelled 204 ar

the rig was extremely heavy so i got a swarovski for the 204

this year i put the nightforce on top of my 25 06 winchester 70 sporter

the gun has shot 1/3 inch groups at 100

the gun weighs about 8 lbs loaded

add 30 ounces for the nightforce and a harris bipod and i'm toting around about 11 lbs

i'm shooting 117 grain hornady btsp interlocks

i'm 57 1/2 years old and i'm tired of carrying that much weight around

i could get an eberlestock or whatever the backpack is called to help distribute the weight better

and i could get a bogpod type tripod and ditch the harris bipod

i do have a 4 wheeler now that'll lessen my hiking quite a bit

i don't mind dialing but i think i like the stadia type reticles the best so i won't have to monkey with drop charts and mils and other calculations

second focal plane doesn't bother me though 1st focal is nice

side focus parralax adjustment is nice too

it seems to me i've got the hubble telescope on top of my rifle now and i'm betting i wouldn't be handicapped much with the smaller nightforce

who knows i might just keep the thing and find out where the mildots hit and make the best of it
