Yup,
They are bringing out a chassis system for Remington short actions. The plan is for the basic folding TRG style stock. What you are seeing on the forend is the additional rail system that is being developed in conjunction with the Marine long range system competition.

Take a look at the rear/bottom portion of the the buttstock....that is my favorite feature. Its a rear elevation "skid"....kinda like a rear monopod. It features rapid gross adjustment, and a wheel for fine adjustment that falls under your hand when you grasp the rear of the stock with your support hand. This is on the rifle being presented to the Marines also.....I shot it on media day, and it is very kewl, very easy to use.

Anyway, no delivery dates, and no pricing yet on the chassis system. I'll try to get more info as it is available. I didn't ask the SAKO guys, but I would guess they would make it with a fixed TRG stock also[its a modular stock, so why not?].

Try well over 2000 for both the fore end and butt stock. If the price is reasonably competitive with the AICS when it does arrive I would be interested to see how they explain that away. I have a fixed stock TRG-22, and personally think the folder is hideous even if it does work well. The folders command an almost 2000 premium on the fixed versions.

A little slow on the draw, Sako. AI only beat them to it by about 15+ years, and a myriad of others in the last couple years. Guess they figured Americans aren't going to give up their 700 actions.

Let's see.....if it is going to be considered an "accessory" by Sako standards, I can't wait to see what the pricing will be.....$2000? $2500? $3000?

Considering magazines are $200, $450 scope mount, and $500 bipod....what is a full stock going to be? While their rifles are quality guns, I have been all but turned off to Sako's current production due to this sort of price jacking.

PB, while agree with you about the prices, I respectfully disagree with the astonishment that they entered this late. Sako was not always a tactical rifle manufacturer. AI solely handles what amounts to be a niche market in the grand scheme of things. Sure, it was a matter of time before they ventured into the tactical market, but you don't see many of the other companies creating chassis systems for other brands of actions. I believe it is the lack of competition that has drawn them into the chassis market. And who knows, it may aid in dropping prices a little. In reality they are the FIRST across the board rifle manufacturer to offer a chassis system. Savage, No. Tikka, No. FN/Winny, No. Browning, No. Weatherby, No. AI only makes two distinct actions (AW and AE. 3 if you count the .50) and 6 basic models (AE, AW, AWM, AWSM, AW50, and AX). I guess that is the long way of stating that I think manufacturers other than AI had more than enough to keep them busy up until now.

A lack of competition in the tactical market? Look at all of the bolt-guns featured at Shot this year! Damn near everything now has a pistol grip/folding stock/rail. While i'm not debating the saturation of the "tactical" market,

my point is this:

Sako's TRG is a quality gun. It can stand up to the AI which is more than 2x the base rifle price. That being said, I expected more from them than to follow into this "tactical chasis" for the 700 like everyone (assuming they've already churned out an AR forearm or M14 stock) and their dog is trying to do. Especially since their folder doesn't appear to be overly popular anyway, and you know their price will be beyond ridiculous.

PB,

We just got our signals crossed. Price has been perennially high. If you reread my post I was talking about the lack of "chassis systems" from one maker for another type of action (ie AI for Rem 700 and now Sako for Rem 700). I completely agree that there are a ton of tactical offerings when it comes to complete weapons. I was strictly addressing a manufacturer making a chassis system for another manufacturers action. It seems as if there has been an explosion of products for the 700 as of late, but most are made by niche manufacturers and not wholesale gun makers. I was just pointing out that it may not have been the biggest thing on Sako's radar until now...and it probably still isn't. We are lucky to see something like that at all from a manufacturer that has done so well with quality rifles from the get go.
