Rifle Scopes Sako Scope Bases?

I have two Sako model 85 Laminated Stainless Varminter rifles. These have the integrated angled dove-tail scope bases built in from factory... I am trying for the life of me to find a picatinny rail, 2 piece rail, or 20 MOA scope rings to fit on these rifles.

I contacted Beretta and they told me they don't know of anyone that makes anything like this, I've contacted just about everyone I can find online including NEAR MFG and Ken Ferrel accessories. NEAR and Ferrel make a sako rail, but the action has to be tapped and drilled for the rail to screw down on top of. Has anyone gone through this before?? Other places have picatinny rails for the sako, but they are all for the TRG model Sako...

Thus far the only options I can find to do is buy a picatinny rail with holes that will fit, then get the action drilled, but this would leave me with a goofy look of the dove tails underneath the rail.... Other option a gunsmith told me was to get the dove tails machined off totally then get the action tapped and have a picatinny rail put on top... (I don't like this option either.) I hope I'm not SOL here...

The only thing remotely close to exactly what I want is the Roedale Precision 20 MOA rail, but I am not sure of quality here, and I couldn't find a place to order from in the United States, every website I saw was euros...

Gosh those look like they would work except I am hesitant because there is no screws or lock or anything on them to lock them in place... It says the slide onto the dove tails then you tap them on snug. It's very possible I'm over thinking this but how can that be any kind of rigid or hold up to bumps bruises or recoil if they don't lock in place?

Yes, your overthinking it. Recoil drives the rifle to the rear, and the scope towards the front, making the bases ever tighter. I owned my first Sako in 1974. I used them a bunch since then. Most all rings and bases I used just were just friction fit over the dovetails. Some of the heaviest calibers I ever owned were based on Sako actions : like, .338 Win Mag., 375 H&H, 416 Rem., and 458 Win mag. Never had a base move under recoil or out of the dovetail with a bump. I did have few scopes slide forward in the rings from recoil (hate gloss scopes, used be to all that were made) , but the base always stayed in place.

Makes since point taken. That was on my mind I just wasnt sure 100%. I have a scope thats sliding forward on my 460 S&W Revolver because of recoil. New mounts going on it soon too..

I was in the same boat. Take of the front optilock(Sako org. Rings and bases) ring. Mile the base of it (depends how many moa you want), there is plenty of material. Reinstall it to the optilock base & you are hoot to go. I'm very happy with mine. Hope this helps.

Thats an idea too about milling down the optilocks. I'll have to look into those near rails again and consider drilling it as an option. I was really trying to stay away from doing permanent holes. May not have a choice! Thanks for the advice!

I looked forever for a 34mm mount on a 75V. Optilocks did not come with the inner ring that protects the scope body. The 1913 2-piece picatinny rear rail doesn't have enough length for Spuhr rings (dual locking lugs). Near mfg would not return a email and every single time I talked to him he didnt remember our conversatio. The USO rail isn't mfg any longer. I finally found Makuick, but It doesn't have a 20 moa tilt.

I had my Sako 75 & 85's drilled and tapped then a Near Mfg. base installed - it came out perfect!!

I feel this is the way to go - send you Near base and rifle to one of the great gunsmiths on here & let them do this, you won't be sorry!!
