Savage 10FP-What’s this stock?

Re: Savage 10FP-What’s this stock?

Quickest way to determine if it's an accustock is to pull the action and look inside. If it has an aluminum block, it is. Be advised if you pull the action you will need to re-torque your action screw to savage's recomended torque value ( accu-stocks are around 40 in.-lbs)

Re: Savage 10FP-What’s this stock?

I’m a beginner and have just started investing in shooting gears. I don’t own a torque wrench yet. It’s on my list right after the reloading gears (so I’ll probably post a whole bunch of other posts). But thanks for the torque value. I’ll use it once I buy my torque wrench. Since this rifle shoots sub 0.5 MOA all day long, I’m not going to take it out of the stock for now.
But the Accustock is only part of the question. I’m trying to understand the different stocks that Savage has been using on the 10FP.
Several comments:
- Savage doesn’t produce any 10FP model
- I have never seen a 10FP with the stock that my rifle has. According to the box my rifle is a 10FP made in 2009
-Visually, my stock looks like the 10 FLCP-K (with accustock) and the 10 FP-SR (No accustock). Is there a way to tell the difference without taking it out of the stock? Has savage ever made a 10FP with accustock?

Re: Savage 10FP-What’s this stock?

Well i know for a fact that if it was made in 2009 it most likely does not have the accu stock and 2. all accustock rifles have the bolt release in front of the trigger guard, and i believe that they are only made in 2010 on models.

Re: Savage 10FP-What’s this stock?

show me the belly!! in the one picture the sling is in the way. can you get a picture of the underside? and usually 10fp wasnt accustocked. still a good solid base. plenty you can do from there too

Re: Savage 10FP-What’s this stock?

I'm almost 99.9% positive that is an Accustock. The slightly larger fore end is a good indication. My 10FP was in the light weight stock and looked a little different. I tossed it as soon as I got it.

Re: Savage 10FP-What’s this stock?

I own a accustock and i can tell you that the accu stock has a narrow front and is checkered trust me on this it is not a accustock to you research before you say you are99.9% positive i have one sitting 2 feet from me.

Re: Savage 10FP-What’s this stock?

That's the same stock that's on my Savage 10 FCP. Not an Accustock but it shoots about .5 moa!

Edited to add that I gave it a rattle-can paint job but I am sure it's the same model stock, complete with enlarged forend.

Re: Savage 10FP-What’s this stock?

If needed, I’ll get some additional pictures this WE.
I saw the reply “ accustock rifles have the bolt release in front of the trigger guard”. This makes sense and I was able to see this detail in the pics on savage site.
The rifle is a 308 with a 24” barrel. Accustock or not, It consistently shoots sub 0.5 MOA with 168 grain bullets (and a cheap scope). The targets that you see were shot at 100 yards with a $39 4X32 scope (long story… broke the new Mueller APV, put the cheap 4x32 scope on, shot the targets, bought a pin ridge tactical 3-12 the same day and took the pics… Will buy a nice scope next year).

I’m pretty sure we have the same. Does yours has a 24” barrel too? Is the stock pillar bedded? How does it shoot? I wonder why Savage replaced this stock with the more flimsy looking one on the 10FP and has reduced the barrel length to 20”.

I stand corrected! Damn good thing I didn't say "almost 100%."

Re: Savage 10FP-What’s this stock?

Yea I'm almost certain we have the same rifle. Mine also has a 24" barrel. I'm not sure if the stock had pillars or not but its very doubtful.

It shot fine with that factory stock on it, around .75-1" with good ammo. However, there was alot of flex in the forend so I did opt to replace it. There are alot of options out there starting at $100 and climbing to nearly $1000 for some of the chassis systems out now.

While the accustock is much better than the factory tupperware I still feel there are better choices out there. If you got the rifle for a resonable price you did well. The savage is a good platform to start with and nearly everyone ditches the factory stocks eventually.

Wrong. My model 10 FLCP-K was purchased October of 2009 with an Accustock.

Well, well, Tatertot. Looks like we both may need to do a little more research before posting incorrect info!

Re: Savage 10FP-What’s this stock?

There have been a few different versions of the Accustock in the last couple of years. The standard hunting stock with the thinner forearm (16/116, PC), the LE model Accustocks (FCP, FP), and a beefier version of the hunting Accustock that might be what is on the LRH series. I like the Accustock system. Just don't like the FCP grip angle.

Congrats on the new stick!

Re: Savage 10FP-What’s this stock?

Did all of you totally ignore the pictures I posted? It's the same stock as mine, not an accustock! The only difference is that I painted mine.

Re: Savage 10FP-What’s this stock?

here is the thing. i heard the quit installing the accuwedge in the accustocks. smooth barrel nut or not will not ID an accustock id i recall. and if you have 4 screw, 3 in front of the trigger, 2 in front of the mag well.

the red dotted lines are the three screws
