Savage 112 338 Lapua Single Shot and Reloading Question

I've had one for a while and it is easily one of my most accurate rifles i own. Consistently .5 Moa with hand loads. Price of your reloads really depends on your recipe. The cost of .338 bullets vary greatly depending on your intended use. I'm shooting hornday 285 ELDM. You should be able to roughly work out your cost once you have selected your bullet and add the cost of 85-90 gr power and a primer if you already have brass.

Ok, thanks for the reply. One other question did you have any problems with reloaded brass sticking, like Hornady? I read that somewhere, seems Lapua or Norma is the way to go from what I've read. Thanks again.

The only brass I had stick to the chamber was from a cheap box of American Eagle that the shop gave me with the rifle. When I first shot the rifle I guess I didn't clean it well enough because now it shoot everything great including Hornady ammo and brass, Prime, and Federal GMM.

I have one, it’s stupid accurate.
I’m running 285s as well. I’ve never tried anything but lapua brass in it. 15 shots @100 yards with h1000. I’m only running 2700 FPS but I’m not messing with it, it has good data to 1500 yards.

Thank you for your input. I think I may have to unload a couple guns and get a new one now. I single feed my 12FV anyway so it will be sorta the same.
Only this 338 will reach a lot farther out than I'm getting right now with the CM. Thanks HB

Where did you wind up powder wise with your load? I am getting ready to work up similar with Lapua brass, H1000 and the 285s. I'd like to pay close attention to where your node lines up while I figure out where my load settles out. Please PM me if you prefer.

To the OP, I have similar but a 338 FCP 110 and it put shots 7 thru 9 of its life inside of .6" @ 100 yrds using factory Lapua 300 Gr Scenar. The first 6 shots where all sub MOA as well but I had been scrubbing the barrel between those shots so was still pleasantly surprised.

I’m at 89.5 grains.
I hex boron coat my bullets so that will change things a little. I can get a coal later, I’m not near my notes.

I never had any issues related to brand of brass. I tried hornady a little and settled with lapua. I did find cartridges were hard to chamber and extract when neck sizing brass only. I now neck size then run through a body die and bump the sholder back 2thou. Feeds perfectly now. I ended up using 91.5gr of retumbo for about 2750fps with the hornady 285eld

Ok, thanks a lot, I'm taking a lot of notes on this stuff. I'll be ready when I get my rifle. Thank you for the input.
