Hey guys, im about to buy a savage LRP in 6.5 creedmoor, i was just wanting to hear about some of you guys opinions on this round, whats the farthest you have taken yours out to? What kind of set ups are you guys running? Do you hand load? If so what is your favorite load? Thanks!

I don't shoot the LRP but the 10 24" barrel Predator Hunter in 6.5 is a very nice shooting rifle. Haven't gone over 530 yards with it but using both 140gr and 120gr Hornady factory A-Max I've shot a good many consecutive stationary 4" shotgun clays as targets. Loading your own brings slightly better accuracy and lower ammo price at the cost of some labor.

Since it's a Savage I'd say just clean the heck out of it before taking her out and shoot slow enough not to heat up the barrel for the first 40 rounds or so. Mine shoots a heck of a lot better dirty than clean, and it takes a good 5 rounds or so of "fouling" shots after a good cleaning to get it back to what it was before cleaning. The 6.5 CR is a flat shooting round with excellent ballistics. There's a lot of debate between users of 6mm and 6.5mm stuff as to which is better but then again that same argument takes place anywhere you ask which is the best caliber for taking game in N. America. You won't be disappointed in the caliber for certain and Savage makes a pretty nice weapon. Prolly one of the top 2 or 3 factory bolt guns on the market for the $$ spent.

I recently got into a savage 12 LRP 6.5 Creedmoor, and I like it ALOT

Furthest I have shot it out to was 1500 yards on a 24x24 steel, no pictures of any sort of group as there were others shooting also

Here is 3 shots at 1260 yards

Mine is set up with a weaver rail, black hawk rings, 5-20x50 SS scope, and an aftermarket 10 round mag



I have never shot factory ammo threw mine, But it has been very easy to reload for, seems to like pretty much any bullet I have tried, 140 amax, 140 Hornady BTHP, 140 Barnes match burner, 142 SMK and all have shot very good.

Liked mine quite a bit. Have hits at 1200.

Doing it again, I would get a standard small shank action, shilen/cbi/mcgowen barrel and nice stock. The lrp is a tank of a barrel for positional shooting and small shank barrels are easier to come by when looking for switch barrels or replacements.

Savage should have done this in a varmit contour, small shank with target trigger. Then it would have been nearly perfect.

I know the small shank barrels are easier to come by, but would you say the added rigidity of the LRP target repeater action makes up for the lack of barrel availability? I ask because I am debating building off a 12 action or buying a LRP and using that action as a base. The one thing that keeps me from building form a 12 action is I like the idea of the more enclosed and ridged LRP action. Do you guys think the LRP action is that much of an advantage over a 12 action, especially when you start talking about hanging a suppressor on the end (I would think there would be less POI shift with the LRP action)

Long story short: my original LRP large shank barrel was pulled off, rechambered to 6.5Creedmoor (26" to 24"), threaded as a small shank, and put in a 12 Varmint action from NSS. I've shot the rifle with my TBAC 30P-1 and have negligible POI shift. The original LRP now sports a Shilen 28" bull .260Rem barrel and also demonstrates zero POI shift with the suppressor. It's a TBAC though so that could be a contributing factor (15oz). If you have a heavier suppressor you might see a difference.

For the OP: I've had 2nd round hits at 1200yds with both the .260 and 6.5Creedmoor. Do yourself a favor and get 10 round mags from Dan at Dark Eagle Customs if you stay with the factory DBM.

That looks like the stock on my savage 110fcp .338! Love that stock! I really apreciate you guys feedback! I have a vortex viper. 6.5-20x50 on my lapua, and given the 20 minute base, i have just enough adjustment to get me to a mile! For the money vortex seems pretty hard to beat, so i think that is what ill be putting on the 6.5 too! What is the most popular powder for this round?

Not really. They make Saum and WSM barrels in small shank, so Im not sure the benefit of the LRP action being large shank besides weight.

Id rather have a stainless small shank 12, than 12lrp.

I got my son one for christmas and am impressed.It didn't shoot the factory loads to good so I worked up a load for it using the same ingredients but the powder charge is 42.3 of H4350.It should shoot the factory stuff pretty good and they have a 1 inch accuracy guarantee.I am going to try the factory loads again after we get a few more rounds down the barrel.It now comes with the HS tactical stock instead of a hunting stock.Clean the tube of grease out of the barrel if you get one and you should be good to go.

OP, if you could please post pics of your new rifle when you get it and also where you got it. I am still tossing up this purchase but want to make sure I get one of the newer stocks instead of the old style.

I asked the gun store about the one I purchased and he called the vendor and talked to them about it.They told him it was new inventory and would have the new stock configuration.Just have a understanding with the store owner about this as I told him I did not want it if it comes in with the old stock.

I don't know about all the nuances of the Savage line, but my shooting buddy picked up a 12 LRPin .260 and it's a great rifle. New stock type and shoots great right out of the box, with just an initial cleaning. Yes, it's a heavy bugger, so may it be for everyone, but for the money I'm not sure anything else factory quite compares. I don't even own a Savage other than the mark III BV .22, but I may someday.

Man, you guys are getting me fired up for this rifle, what is recoil like? Ill be shooting at over 1000 yds and thought about putting a brake on it so i can see POI, but if its not needed, i wont get one!

I didn't need a brake on my LRP 260 to spot my own shots at 1000 yds. It's a great rifle (For shooting prone or supported), but very unbalanced to shooting offhand. I rebuilt my LRP 260 with a 24" McGowen #7LV barrel and Manners T5 stock. It's a much better balanced rifle now for shooting offhand/unsupported.

I can call my own shots with my lrp in 260 without a brake. My gun came with the old style stock, but both my buddies have since bought one in 6.5 and 260 both have came with the newer stock. My gun shoots twice as good as I can

After thinking about a semi custom then deciding I did not want to spend that much, I ordered the 12 LRP in 6.5 yesterday from Buds Gun Shop. After reading about all of the success others have had with it I could not pass on the price.

I have th LRP in .260 coming soon. Also on the way, 8 lbs of 4831, 8 lbs of 4064, and 1,000 A Max 140s. The 300 rds of Lapua brass arrived today.
I don't know if this powder is the best choice, but was the best I could do now.
Any suggestions would be appreciated on: primers, dies, in fact anything at all.

My LRP 260 liked H4350. 43.0gr with A-Max 140 @2.855" COL = 2800-2820 FPS. 42.8gr with SMK 142 @2.840". Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any H4350 in about 8-9 months.

I have one that just arrived at my FFL. Hopefully it has the new stock.

I wanted to start with the sturdiest action that still had a magazine. Don't understand why the 10/110 with drop mags have the top milled away.

Took my buddys new, unfired 12LRP 6.5CM out yesterday. Gave it a cleanup, and the first 5 grouped less than 1/2 moa. Cleaned it to find ZERO copper (very surprised at this). Shot a few more 5 shot groups, I got the first 4 shots of one group into the same hole @ 100 yards, but dropped the 5th out about 1/2".

Load was 140gr HRNDY bthp, 41.5gr H4350, 2.775" COAL, 2730fps

Then tried some 120gr factory ammo. I got 5 shots into less than 3/8". Decided to "shoot til I missed". Made it to 8.

Hell of a rifle for $900. Wish the barrel was a bit thinner though.

Went over to my gunsmiths today and looked over my new LRP. He's going to go through it and mount my scope, etc.

I took my chances and ordered from Bud's on the 13th and my rifle came with the new stock.
