I need to come up with an action for my next project, while I was in my LGS today there was a Savage/Stevens 200 in .308, used for I think $325. Anyway, I haven't bought a Savage in a long while, so a few questions. Are they the 4.40" hole spacing (did'nt have my handy tape with me), center or stagger feed, large or small shank? Also, if you put one in a Chassis will there need to be mods to the receiver (ETA: In regards to using AI magazines)? TIA

If it is a recent vintage Stevens 200, it'll be Center Fed (4.4) and small shank. You won't need to do any mods as it is basically a Mod 10/11.

I built a 308 on a Stevens 200 LA and just dropped it into a Choate LA Ultimate Sniper.

That is correct on the action screw spacing. If you want to use AICS magazines in a chassis, you can do no better than the new AICS for Savages. It is a nearly direct drop in for the Stevens 200. Mine had that odd trigger spring with the tab on the right side. It wasnt an issue since I replaced the trigger wtih an aftermarke unit and cut the tab off with my Dremel tool. That price does sound a little high for a 200 though. I have seen them at gun shows for $250-$300

I am in the middle of building a 200 now bought new for $325, just make sure that is has a round back receiver and if its center feed your GTG.
Also see where the bolt release lever is mine is on top rather than buy the trigger guard. All parts are a model 10/11 i will be dropping mine into a XLR carbon.
