Gunsmithing Savage Trigger Upgrades

I've had Jewell, bix and andy, tt diamond, huber, Calvin elte, ect and I will say the sav2 I had was definitely in the same league, BUT, it took way more adjustment to get it there. I spent some time tweaking the adjustments on it and thought it was really good when I was done. But wasn't a 10 min deal like a 700 trigger. I a totally preferred it over the Calvin elite and huber. It's not a tt diamond though.

But to answer your question not that I'm aware of. I think that's top of the line in the savage world.

On my Sav2, I have it acting like a weird two stage. And it isn't a two-stage trigger. It is pretty scary, and I won't let my kids shoot it. But the gun still shoots .300 5 shot groups, so I guess it will work for now.

I am probably going to take the 6mm bR barrel off and put it on a bighorn origin, and get out of the savage business all together.

I've got my .223 down to about 12 oz, but if you run the bolt hard it trips the accutrigger. I treat it like a two stage, take up on the slack on the blade and then I'm ready. It actually makes you really consistent. The trigger on the Long Range Precisions with the red blade have a lighter spring. My 6.5 was about 20 oz and I could run the bolt fast without tripping the accutrigger.

I had the sav 2 and didn't like it at all, it will slam fire very easily. I have a Sharp Shooter in the drawer just waiting until I decide to fight it. I run bix's now on my other rifles, and can't even imagine anyone putting a sav2 in the same league with a Bix

I'm doing what should never be done, and that is dump money into a savage and try and make it better. I don't sell guns though, I just acquire more. So to me, it is worth it, if I can make it better. $220 for a Savage Trigger is hard to swallow though. The advantage of it though is it's an entire unit swap compared to ever single other savage trigger.

So my shooting buddy has a Savage with Acutrigger. In the beginning it easily adjusted down to what I call a Benchrest weight. Very light pull and no creep or overtravel. Then it started tripping and he had to adjust for heavier pull weight. That trend just continues and the tripping is a PITA. Is this issue, which I think is fairly common to Acutrigger, a lever or a spring fatigue issue?
Is it possible to replace the spring and stop the problem? I would never recommend the SAV-2 as I've not heard much good and the one Rifle-Basix trigger I had on a R700 was pure junk.

Timney makes one for Savage rifles. I've got Timneys on a few Remingtons and I really like their stuff. I haven't tried it on a Savage yet, but I'm up in the air between one of those and a Rifle Basix for a custom Savage I've got. It's in a KRG 180 Alpha with a Lilja barrel and it already shoots really well. I"m just not a big fan of the accutrigger.

Well, not all Savage rifles are created equal. Accutrigger is the best option if you are dealing with a bottom bolt release triggerguard as there are only 2 aftermarkets for those.
Very frustrating if you NEED a LadyHunter stock and can’t upgrade that 111...

The crazy thing I have found in the two Savages I own is the 111 has a smooth action, easy to open and close and can be run real well. My model 12 I have worked on it a lot and the bolt throw still isn't as great as I would like to have it. But i'll take that model 12 side bolt release any day over the bottom release just for the fact of finding aftermarket parts and stocks.

I didn’t find much trouble getting a stock or chassis for my bottom bolt release model 11.
And the accu trigger with target spring is pretty damn decent.
