Tomorrow I have to say goodbye to my little girl and best friend of 13 years Godiva. Be sure to give your pups an extra hug & treat tonight.

My condolences to you and your family. I have had to do that a few times myself through the years. It's never easy. I'll tell my buddy, Benji, my Black Lab / American Bulldog I love him when I give him his bed time MilkBone treat.

I dread the day I have to do that to mine. I will say a prayer for you tonight brother, agreed with 997/2, a good dog goes to Lab Valhalla. You won't want to now, but I hear it helps to get a new pup fairly soon. Nothing can replace them, but it helps to have another friend. Take care man.

So sorry. I have been there and done that. All I can say is that you need to get another dog. When my GSD Ruger died I was convinced I never wanted another dog again. But along came Jake and I feel better. He will never replace Ruger but he is a good dog. Lots of love left to give to another.

Sad. Those of us that have been there, done that know what you're experiencing and it just plain sucks. Swore I'd never get another one. Glad I did....takes away the pain. There can never be one just like the last one, but each one has it's own set of memories. Other folks are right. Grieve, cry, scream for a while if it makes you feel better, then get another friend to help ease the hurt. Sorry for your loss.
Good luck.

My Weims just turned 3 last month. Hopefully I've got lots of time, but I love on them every day, because you just never know. I truly dread when the time comes.

Who turned on the fire sprinkler system?

Thanks for the kind words guys. I really appreciate it. The vet was nice enough to come to the house to do it so she could be comfortable. Still one of the worst days of my life. Again, thanks for the support.

My condolences also power, it's not easy.

I had a spitting image of your dog, only male for 13 1/2 years, doing what you had to do was the hardest thing I've ever done in my 54 years.
Some freindly advice, unless you're going to replace her, stay out the thread on here, "Mans best freind, show them", it never ends well.
Take care.

This is a major source of disagreement with my wife. She's well educated in the Bible, and insists that animals have no souls.
I feel like kicking her ass every time she says this.

I know damn well ALL my dogs are going to be hauling ass to me when I get to those pearly gates. If the Bible says otherwise, its wrong.
It wouldn't be heaven otherwise.

She's going to chase birds all day, and lay by the fire all night.

Gentlemen of the Jury: The best friend a man has in the world may turn against him and become his enemy. His son or daughter that he has reared with loving care may prove ungrateful. Those who are nearest and dearest to us, those whom we trust with our happiness and our good name may become traitors to their faith. The money that a man has, he may lose. It flies away from him, perhaps when he needs it most. A man’s reputation may be sacrificed in a moment of ill-considered action. The people who are prone to fall on their knees to do us honor when success is with us, may be the first to throw the stone of malice when failure settles its cloud upon our heads.

The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous is his dog. A man’s dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he may be near his master’s side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer. He will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounters with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wings, and reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens.

If fortune drives the master forth, an outcast in the world, friendless and homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege than that of accompanying him, to guard him against danger, to fight against his enemies. And when the last scene of all comes, and death takes his master in its embrace and his body is laid away in the cold ground, no matter if all other friends pursue their way, there by the graveside will the noble dog be found, his head between his paws, his eyes sad, but open in alert watchfulness, faithful and true even in death.

Oh man! that sucks. I know the feeling. I put to sleep my German Shepherd Wolfie about three years ago and it's still hurt. He was with me for 15 years. His arthritis was so bad that I have to help him get up in the morning just to do his thing. What really hurt was that, I could have kept him for a maybe a couple more years but I have to work and I can't leave him alone at home in his condition. The day I took him to the Vet, he won't even look at me. Man I'd cried.

You aren't kidding sir. We have our Elke on a diet and she's getting a lot of Condroitin, Glucosamine and exponential increases of love; not that there was any deficit of that before. After we had to put down our beloved Dax, back in 08, Elke became the Main GSD of the house.

Don't know what we'll do when we have to put Elke out of her misery, hopefully we can manage this for a few years. But I seriously want to find the people who inflicted this insane, faggoty, hip condition on this most amazing breed of dog, all so other cock suckers could be impressed at a dog show...

What they have done to the German Shepherd is a crime and I am angry as fuck about it.

She is really a beautiful girl. I am very sorry for your loss. I have been where you are three different times in my life and have two at home now that I will have to part with some day. It is one of the hardest things you will ever do, but with time it will get better. You will always miss her, but it will get better. Prayers

Condolences Brother. Had to put down our Basset Hound Lady and our Walker hound Dixie within 6 weeks of each other. Lady was 18 and Dixie 12. They both are buried in the back yard under a nice shady oak tree they used to lounge around under for many years, and have a granite headstone. I took 5 months before we found a new special friend to love.
