Anyone else have random numbers always calling and not leaving a voicemail? When they do it's 35 second or 1:02 of nothing.

I've been getting numerous scam texts for the last two weeks, If I get a text, or a call, and it's not in my contact list, I delete them. I'm always afraid when I get these spam texts, I'm going to corrupt my phone, because, I have to open them, to delete them. So far, so good, though. Mac

On an iPhone, swipe left on the text from the Messages list, and the option to Delete appears without you having to open the text. I would imagine other types of phones are similar?

In my younger days I had a job where we mad a LOT of outbound calls.

At first the job was normal and all that mattered was converting leads to sales and life was good. As the product faced more difficulties selling they didn’t try to improve the product, instead they brought in a consulting firm and made new benchmarks: dials and talk time.

Well once that became the new benchmark for a raise that became my job. I created a spreadsheet. If you had a number that was “no longer connected” that was a FAST 100 numbers to hit, sometimes I just dialed 20 unique numbers 5 times each. No one cared.

If you NEVER blocked me and always go to VM that’s 2m30s of free “talk time” and adds to my required 100 dials. The best part about leaving a nothing VM is no one called my boss to complain. Not once. Because I never said anything offensive.

naturally I couldn’t keep this to myself or I would be targeted, the haters would expose me or the management would make me “the suck up, until they spotted my new scam” So I told everyone on my sales team except the manger. Told non sales team friends too.

so we hit our talk time and dial numbers, got our raises and the product sold like it always did…..shitty. Funny thing is, my sales neither improved or declined. I was still just slightly above average

I even found a company that lets you dial into them, then your intended number, you leave a VM, it dials them, never rings, just leaves a VM…..2m30s of nothing. Later I learned to scale that. All my “busy” work was done in 30-45m depending on how much actual work was distracting me from my real clients.

a few moths later summer was over and I was back in school.

maybe it’s not a big huge conspiracy, maybe that whole “talk time & dials” thing has made a comeback and there are folks like me still out there just trying to appease the overlords so we can work how we want.

or maybe Putin got your number from Xiden and they called you at their last sleepover?

It's the scammers checking to see if your number is a good number. Once they know it is, they then use your number to spoof scam people. This is something that the govt and tech overlords could actually do to help people. It can be prevented, but they refuse to address this unbelievable huge global crime epidemic.

The simple fact that neither political party seems to care about this should let us know where we stand with them.

Because any solution would cut into the barrage of "fundraising" calls the politicians have their robo caller centers make to try to raise money with the typical pitch... the forces of evil are poised to win, for only $100 you can turn the tide and defeat evil... And if you give now, some "special donor" will double, no triple no quadruple match your donation. You don't want the forces of evil to win do you? (Pretty much exact pitch from any politician from any party these days.)

You are absolutely correct. I had forgot all about that little feature. Most of the texts I get, are from people/businesses I know, so, I'm just use to answering them without a thought.
    Thanks for that reminder. Mac(y)

Strangely I have had the opposite happen. for a while, up until about a month ago I was getting 2-3 calls a day. Fortunately the phone company identified nearly all of them as "Spam Risk" and I would let it go to vm. None ever left a message. I can't prove it but I believe if you just cancel the call without answering that may mark you as an active line.

Yesterday was the first one I've gotten since early May, it was labeled "Telemarketer". It went to vm and no one left a message

Ive been anal about putting spam numbers in my blocked caller list for the last year or so. I went from cursing my phone to getting on a few a week
