Ok so I am getting real impatient but need help making a wise decision as I am new to the long range 600 and out stuff.
Here is my dilemma : I am still on hold for the new NF Beast and have been for some time now. Well I thought I was going to be able to get it this week with the milr reticle, then I received a phone call with more bad news. The vendor advised they are getting some in a week or so but not in the reticle I want and was advised I now will be looking at second week of June so I am just plain worn out with this. I also just bought the spuhr mount 4603b from mile high for the NF.
So my option is: I would have accesss to a S&B 5x25 56 PM 2 at the end of next week but it will have the p4l fein reticle which I don't know much about. I also would have to send back the spuhr and exchange it for the correct 4616 that would fit the Schmidt.
What route would you all go? Wait it out or say F" it and get the Schmidt. The bad thing is there really is no guarantee I would get NF in June that is just what I was told.
Thank you all for your expertice !!

Reticle wise, I prefer the M2D over the P4F (I know you said you wanted the mil-r), however, S&B's h2cmr is my preferred set up.

I picked up a NF beast with the M2D and it should touch down tomorrow... I also have a S&B 5-25 h2cmr and consider it the gold standard. Some people bitch about the S&B tunneling from 5-7x, I don't find it as an issue.

What I'm looking for from the NF is nice deep clicks, clean glass with great resolution and a forgiving eyebox at higher magnification.

I'm very happy with my S&B, but NF has always put out a robust product.... time will tell but I don't think you could go wrong with either.

In conclusion, you could go with the next big thing in the optic world or go with a tried and true European kit. Tough call...

Probably the h2cmr problem is the vendor already has my money for the NF and only will be receiving p4l fein. I'm sure I could ask for my money back but this has been going on for months as you all know. I feel kinda trapped and don't know which way to go.

Keep your order on the Beast and locate a used S&B 3-20 or 5-25 for now. When you get the Beast and can compare it directly to the S&B just sell the one that is not preferred.

All I can say is I almost ordered a Beast way back when but changed my mind. I'm glad I bought my S&B because I've been using it now 13 months and bought another I liked it so much.

For the coin your spending, don't settle for anything less then what YOU want...

Agreed ! I have no experience with either. I want the NF the problem is I'm tired of waiting the weather is good now and I just want to get out with this rifle now. Do I sound like a little kid ? Admit Dad I want it now. :)
I guess I have waited this long what's 6 more weeks huh?

P4f reticle is a good reticle! If you are dialing shoots in on the turrets .
Which if you are new to long range shooting you will be doing. It is just fine if you are to use the reticle for distance calculations as well! Most of these new hold over reticles I am sure are great but not necessary for most of us! Let's face it very few of us are getting call outs from our spotter and need to quickly get a round down range on target! For my older eyes I find most of the reticles just to busy! But then again I can dial in the correct mil and not worry about the steel down range getting away!!

I have had a lot of different optics though never a night force. They look nicely made but have never impressed me optically! Again the beast, which I have never seen, could be different!

The s&b are just amazing, again at least to my eyes! I have never seen anything very close to my pm2. I also currently have the new Steiner 5-25 which is very very nice. When you look at both next to each other you can see a difference.

The other thing is you can always pick up a 3-20 or 5-25 used be shooting now and when the beast finally comes in see which is nicer to you. The S&B you will not lose on and I am sure someone will jump all over the NF once you get and decide to sell it!

There are just my feelings, the more time behind the glass you send the easier it is to know what you prefer!

Good luck either way

Thanks all for the quick responses and good advice. Sometimes it almost feels like there are to many choices to make and it seems to complicate things a bit. I thinks I'll leave my Beast on order and see if I can convince the wife to let loose of a bit more cash and try to pick up a used S&B.

That would be your best bet!! Find a 3-20 or 5-25. If it is not for you , when the NF comes in you sell it. Mount it correctly with good rings and correct torque and it will not have a mark

Life is short. I'd bail on the NF, sure it might be nice- but so would time travel.
Steve has excellent advice if the budget allows- keep it on order- demand will support offloading it in a flash if you don't like it/or it is 2015 when it arrives and there is something else that catches your fancy.

If you handed me a P4F or an H2CMR- the reticule wouldn't be the limiting factor.....
(I am using an H2CMR now-my P4F's got tired of my lousy shooting- I'm probably on thin ice with the H2CMR's by now too)

This is kind of sad, but I have a new SB 3-20 H2CMR that I picked up when they first came out and have never used it. I have looked thru it and mouted it, but never actually fired a single round with it. I would be willing to let it go for a reasonable offer. I picked up a 5-25 PMII that I could mount a Barrett BORS on and now I probably won't ever use my 3-20. I will try and list it in the classifieds.
