Okay so there is this on going issue and I think the only possible solution is getting into a higher end scope something probably in the $5-700 price range. As the last 2scopes I've mounted have been unsatisfactory in meeting my requirements. I just received a Nikon 6-18x40 Buckmaster from Midwayusa.com and while it's a good scope the 1/8" clicks are not very fun also while shooting in the snow the scope seemed fuzzy even with the correct parallax setting as I shot at both 50 and 100 yards. While I doubt there is actual optical problems with this scope, not sure if I want to continue using it. I've looked at everything from Leupolds to Vortex to Bushnells to SWFAs. Not sure I need FFP, but one thing is certain matching turrets and reticles are a must.

In that price range, the SWFA SS 3-15x is about the only rimfire option I feel is suitable. Matching turrets makes the difference, and the close distance parallax seals the deal. Find one used and you can likely sell it later if you upgrade for little to no cost difference to you.

If its for rimfire, I build a ton of custom 22lr's and I always use for the base model Mueller APV with AO, I can sit at my range at 200 yards and hold conversation with you on just a bag and drive them home all day. I know you have a higher price point, and on my precision rifle I use Vortex 6-24x50 PST FFP and I love it. If you do like that price range you are in get a Vortex PST, it doesn't have to be a FFP and you can score a great deal on one for that price point.

Nathan,

You just sold that BSA 4-14 right? Now that you have another type of scope you are realizing they are very hard to beat them for the money. I would have thought that spending another $450 for a SWFA 3-15 would have got me a much better scope but I've had my doubts many times.

Just yesterday I was comparing one of my BSA 4-14's and my SWFA 3-15 for quite a while. What I concluded is the glass in the SWFA is only "ever so slightly better" and just a hair clearer getting towards the edges. I actually like the reticle better on the BSA. IMO, for almost 3 times the price the SWFA is "not" much better of a scope than the BSA. I do really like the 6M parallax on it though because I use it for offhand practice in the shop.

My plan is to sell one of the BSA's and the SWFA 3-15 to put that money towards one of Bushnell's 3-12 LRHS. I'd rather have more than 12x on top but more importantly I want FFP, better than average glass, 10 mil knobs and the 20ft parallax. I like the reticle way more than the SWFA as well.

IMO Bushnells regular 3-12x44 tactical is probably your best bet in this category. My only complaint was the eyebox was a little tight but the glass is better than the BSA and the SWFA. Last year the friend who I sold the Bushnell to won a night shoot with it on his 6.5Creed. That illume comes in handy sometimes!

On a lot of my rimfires I run the Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44. On my main competition rifle I run a Viper PST 6-24x50 SFP. The first one you can find for $350 at CamerlandNY if they still have some DEMO models. The PST can usually be found for $700 or under if you know which Hide vendors to go to. It's an awesome scope for rimfire work out to 300yds IMO.

steve123 - You are exactly and I'm back in the same situation as before. Unless I save what's needed for a good scope, I'll be back here in a couple of months. I'm looking at Bushnells, Vortexes, and possibly the SWFA 5-20 all used of course. So this changes everything.

Sightrons are good.
I also recently picked up a 17 HMR and mounted a Vortex Crossfire on it. It's about the clearest scope I've seen in its price class, and even most in the next class up.
No target turrets though.

Reading your original post, I have to ask. You know how to adjust the diopter, right?
