Looking for scope suggestions for a 6mm ARC 18" barreled Larue AR-15 rifle. The rifles primary purpose will be punching steel out to 1200ish yards. Secondary purpose will be hunting white tail deer and pigs so weight is definitely a factor. Budget is $700 though I would like to be closer to $500 if possible (I am eligible for mil pricing with the companies that do that sort of thing).

My current thinking is to go with a Vortex PST Gen 1 4-16x50 FFP MRAD with EBR1 reticle. It is 22OZ, MRAD turrets, illuminated so it seems to fit the bill (especially for around $450 at Europtic). Anyone have experience with this optic?

Any other suggestions in my price range that might be a good fit? I also like the Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25x50 34mm but at 30oz and with minimal mag of 5X I think it is too much for this build.

Appreciate the advice!

It's not no 22oz, but I like mine for the price of when it was not on sale like this.
Give @gr8fuldoug a call at Cameraland, not sure if he can do any more on that price or not if it is something that you like.
Or just call to talk to him, see what he can do for you on the scopes you are looking at. Although, for Vortex he will probably direct you to someone else who is a Hide vendor who's name has escaped me, but I'm sure someone will say.

Thank you for the tip! That Atholon looks awesome, a tad heavier than i want but ill consider it!

The Athlon Helos Gen 2 2-12x42 or 4-20x50 could be worth asking Doug about.
They were only just announced but both sound very promising and may be available early 2020.

That helos, 2-12 really seems like it could be really worthwhile. Especially for the price, Doug was very helpful too. Never used Athlon before and it does worry me a bit to buy the first version of a new product. Need to think about it more I guess.

I wouldn't hesitate to look at that Diamondback Tactical FFP models. I was impressed with them especially at their price point.

These are also pretty nice if you are staying on a tight budget. They have quite a few nice features for the price, and have the same reticles also found in the strike eagle, PST, and razor lines if/when you decide to upgrade. I had one and was quite happy with it.
