Does anyone here hunt with an optic on their muzzleloader? What scope, power, reticle did you decide on? I read that the shotgun/muzzleloader scopes have the parallax set to 50-75 yards and thats what separates them from the rest. I am willing to spend @ $500 and will most likely go Leupold since I buy USA whenever possible. It looks like the muzzleloader scopes from Leupold are the lower end models but wonder how will they perform in hunting conditions, my lowest end Leupold is a VX3i and it worked fine this year 15 minutes before sunrise.

Does any one have the Ultimate Slam LR with the CDS and wind plex reticle? If so, how do you like it? Would you buy it again? I really don't know if the CDS is worth it on a muzzleloader since I think they are only 1 revolution adjustment. What are your thoughts?

Have you taken a peek at the Leupold UltimateSlam LR 3-9x40mm CDS - Wind-Plex ?

Leupold’s new UltimateSlam™LR 3-9x40mm CDS muzzleloader scope is the ideal combination of flexibility, accuracy, and durability designed. Each UltimateSlam LR CDS is equipped with the Leupold Custom Dial System, and includes a dial that is engraved with yardages that specifically match the ballistics of the muzzleloaders using 200 grains (4 pellets) of powder and 250 grain sabots. As with all CDS scopes, a free custom dial is included through the Leupold Custom Shop. The UltimateSlam LR CDS features the Wind-Plex reticle and the all new Custom Wind Chart. The Wind-Plex reticle has hash marks spaced at 1 MOA intervals on the horizontal crosshair. When used in conjunction with the Custom Wind Chart, which uses the same ballistics as the CDS dial, holds for wind become fast and easy. Leupold’s Multicoat 4 Lens System, classic lockable eyepiece and waterproof, shockproof and fog proof construction combine to deliver the rugged reliability and crisp sight picture expected from Leupold in any hunting conditions. And, like all Gold Ring Scopes, the UltimateSlam LR CDS provides the last word in lab and field tested ruggedness for a lifetime of dependability in the field. Protected by Leupold’s industry leading Leupold Gold Ring Lifetime Guarantee.

Index Matched Lens System
A Leupold® exclusive, this system has nearly perfected Leupold’s already impeccable light management. Leupold engineers specify different coating materials for each lens surface in the riflescope, based on the lens’ index of refraction, placement and function, layering each coating to eliminate reflections and maximize light transmission. The result is unparalleled brightness and extremely sharp resolution across the entire visual field.

2nd Generation Argon/Krypton Waterproofing
While we still waterproof other optics with bone-dry nitrogen – technology pioneered by Leupold® – Select models feature our exclusive, proprietary Argon/Krypton gas blend. Its advantages are two fold: it nearly eliminates the effects of thermal shock, and the Argon/Krypton molecules are significantly larger than nitrogen molecules, reducing the diffusion of gases sealed inside your scope even more than our proven nitrogen technology already does. We pioneered riflescope waterproofing, and now with Argon/Krypton we’re exceeding the standards we set ourselves.

Externally Threaded Fast-Focus Eyepiece
The sleek design of the externally threaded fast-focus eyepiece provides for faster focusing of the reticle under any conditions.

3:1 Zoom Ratio

CDS Custom Dial System

Leupold CDS™ models allow you to quickly dial your elevation to different sight-in ranges with a custom adjustment matched to your specific ballistics information. The CDS dials change out easily, allowing you flexibility with different loads, conditions and calibers. Every CDS dial features ¼-MOA click or 1 cm click (metric versions), finger adjustments and no adjustment covers to lose, making the VX-2, VX-3, VX-6 and VX-R even more accurate and rugged. How the CDS™ System Works The CDS System works by laser-inscribing your scope's elevation dial to match your load, velocity and conditions. Your scope will be in perfect synch with the way your rifle and load shoots, even for hand loads.

Thank you for your continued support.

I'm on my third year with a Bushnell 1.5-4.5x dawn and dusk shotgun scope. I had a Nikon that windage let go before it even zeroed so I put this $100 Bushnell on and it's been ROCK SOLID. I had some pretty low expectations but this scope has held up. Light weight. Good eye releif. Bright enough to shoot at first and last light, doesn't fog when I pull it out of the truck. Duplex reticle may hood it back a bit for distance shooting but I only shoot 100gr Pyrodex under a 250gr Barnes T-EZ. I won't shoot past 125-150 yards as the bullet will be going too slow to perform. Holds MOA at 100y where it's zero'd. I love the combo. Took three last year and only one took a step, 15 to be exact before she piled up.

Edit: if you're shooting one of the modern inlines that shoot 500+ yards (Remington/Savage) I'd look elsewhere. If you have something like what I shoot (CVA Optima) it's a good combo.

The scope will be going on a Knight Ultra-lite

The Leo slam lr is the one I am looking at but wondering if others preferred to get a regular scope and get them to adj the parallax if needed. Is the LR scope a VX-1, how do they compare to the vx3i?

So the VX-1 that is the Ultimate slam and the rest of the shotgun/muzzleloader line a 2 piece design? Is this a red flag, are the one piece tubes more durable or better?

I see they have a VX-3i 2.5-8x36 for the same price at $399, for $25 the will set the parallax from 50/60/75/100/150 and install a CDS on the elevation for $60. But, being that most likely all my shots will be at or under 100 yards, I don't know if the CDS will be that useful?
